The box on wheels has created a entire market segment in Japan.

Dear carfanatic...I used to think the very same thing! But since it's been here I couldn't help to convert ugly into cute when considering that my choices for my $14,000 were used vehicles with 40-60,000 miles on them and little to no warranty remaining. It's my opinion that the Fit's rear styling is "odd" and this comes from a previous Aztec owner. To each there own is very true.

Having test drove both a Fit Sport mt & a xB mt I agree 100%.

I disagree. I test drove both the base Fit (auto) & Fit Sport (mt). The base Fit has 14' wheels vs. 15" on the Sport. The ride & handling on the Sport was much better. I didn't feel secure driving the base Fit.

"I didn't feel secure driving the base Fit."

Oh please...

"The ride & handling on the Sport was much better."

There is no difference between base and sport in those respects, and I really cannot imagine that an extra 20mm of tire width and extra inch of wheel would make so much of a difference for you to feel "secure" in the Sport as opposed to not secure in the base..

The engine, transmission (apart from paddle shifters), and suspension are 100% identical between the two. Apart from somewhat better tires and larger wheels, there is no ride/handling/performance difference. Anything you thought you noticed was your imagination.

The base model ha a few inches less turning radius, and a little less weight(steel 14" weigh less than the alloy 15s.

Now, if they really *would* make a proper Sport version...

The "few inches less turning radius" and "less weight" are inherent differences that are expected to be found between two trim levels of a car and with different size wheels. Of course, those differences are not that significant...about 40 pounds less for the base with 0.1 feet less turning radius.
What I was refering to was Honda actually equipping the Sport with a better engine/transmission or improved suspension...which is not the case.

I think part of the issue is that the person who posted this tested the two different transmissions and assumed the differences were related to the car. Not surprising he liked the Sport better. It had the manual!

Well, that does make sense. Honda makes nice manual transmissions for the price(it's not BMW, but it's certainly not GM). And the car moves much quicker with it if you wind it up properly.

I think that all in all the scion xB is a much better car that the honda fit. It drives better, and looks alot cooler.

You mean like the lack of a cup holder for the rear seat? The fact that the interior has the appeal and feel of Tupperware?

The list of differences between the two adds up to a major win for the Fit.
