Which brand of alarm did you get? Was it quite a sophisticated system? Hood/doors/hatch protection, siren, audible locking confirmation, the works?

Fit Sport DOES come with a security system... least that's what I remember reading at Honda's site.

Sounds like your dealership is ignorant, crooked, or possibly both.

If you read in the manual, it states that the horn and lights go off if the door is opened by any method other than the remote unlock or key in the door. IIRC.

Hm, not sure. I think it's Alpine or something. I got the very basic they had, but it locks all the doors and beeps once to indicate the alarm is set. If you unlock the door w/out disarming the alarm (or if you kick the tire or whatnot), the alarm will sound -- beeping, lights flashing, etc and will go off for 30 seconds or until it's disarmed. When you disarm the car, it beeps twice and flashes. If it beeps three times, the alarm went off already. It was well worth the $200 in my opinion -- especially since I only need my key to start the car.

It may be basic by today's high-tech standards, but, to me, it appears to be more than adequate, and very user-friendly. It actually sounds like a Honda dealer-installed system we had years ago on a CR-V, and I believe that system was also made by Alpine, for Honda.

Like you said, it would beep three times if the alarm had gone off due to an intrusion. And I think it would not beep at all, if the doors were not locked in the first place. I always liked that feature because it tells you what has, or has not, happened.

I was wondering if I could trouble you to confirm the exact model number of the system? It should be in the Instruction Manual, or the sales invoice.

Many thanks!

So, I forgot to look who's the maker but the keychain thingamajig says PRESTIGE. I do remember the guy telling me that this PRESTIGE is from the makers of a big name and that I can go anywhere in the country and still get service if I need...

Yes, I've seen the Prestige name around some. As you said, the manufacturer may be some big name company such as Alpine.

I appreciate your looking into it for me. Thanks!

PS: Is a siren part of the parkage, or does it beep, when arming and disarming, via the horn (which can be quite loud)?

The beeps come into play when arming/disarming the vehicle. If the alarm sounds it's like your average siren type of alarm -- loud enough to draw attention, but nothing too fancy like one of those talking "Step away from the vehicle" types.

I was very hesitant to go forth and spend the $200 simply because I've never had a vehicle with an alarm and am pretty clueless as to how it all works. But the guys at the place I went to (an independant auto electronics shop) were awesome and really explained everything to me.

If I had to do it all over again, I would. And, for me, it made more sense to spend the $200 than get the Sport version. Good luck!
