Dealer-Installed Alarm for Base Fit by dzhang84

My dealer actually installed a Karr alarm system on my base Fit which I declined. However, they didn't remove the system altogether, just disabled it. Would I have to remove the system altogether before trying to install a keyless entry system on my own? And can I disconnect the battery without worrying about the alarm unit?

Not very secure with the security system by mbee

I got the Honda Fit Sport AT with Honda's security system and auto start. I was having problems with the system on passive mode (there's a second key chain with this and was told never use the buttons on the key--which I was faithful in doing so; I would even told any valet parking don't use the buttons on the key, but you never know if they do or don't). The alarm was reset to active mode, because I was told the alarm was resetting too quickly (basically if I got out of the car it reset by the time it would take to walk over to the pump for gas). It's on active now, but I'm still having problems. It seems like the alarm is still disabling on its own. Which doesn't make sense how this could be...It makes me wonder how long I'll have the car if it does this at the mall.

Sounds like they installed some sort of after-market system for you. I'm guessing the auto-start is an after-market system with an integrated alarm system? How do you mean the alarm is still disabling on its own?

The dealer did not install anything. This security "device" is the etching of numbers on your windows. If you look you will barely see them and an telephone number to report the stolen vehicle. What you are referring to is the fact that they did not register your numbers (fee for this) so if yours is stolen. The fit comes with a factory alarm. Look in your manual for more information.

Security System activates by itself - normal? by daveincharlott

If I unlock my '08 Sport (factory security system) with the key remote, but don't get in the car, the security system activates by itself in a minute or so.

If I unlock the car with the key mechanically, this automatic reset doesn't happen.

I can sort of see where this might make sense from a design standpoint (e.g., you remotely unlock the car in a parking garage, get distracted, and forget you've left the car unlocked). But the manual makes no mention of this.

Is it normal for a disabled security system to re-activate itself automatically?

When you say, "activates by itself" do you mean the doors re-lock and the S.S. re-arms? If so, this is normal. My '07 MDX does the same thing if you unlock w/ the fob and don't open any doors. It automatically re-locks.

It is designed to relock and re-arm itself in the situation you described. Some models will give the user the option of disabling that, but, IMO, you will want to have that feature. I have, on more than a couple of occasions, accidentally unlocked a previous car I owned, which did not have the relock feature, with the remote (from bumping into the button while the fob is in my pocket).

I just got my 2009 Fit Sport yesterday. I knew everything there was to know about this car because I was comparing it with another car (Aveo) I was thinking of buying. I payed for the car in full and $250 below invoice,so I guess the dealer was getting desperate and tried to convince me to buy an alarm system for $800. I told him the car is already equipped with a security system. He then tried to to explain that it did not include the "alarm." I told him no. After we finished the transaction, he made a point to tell an associate to make sure the alarm system in the car was disabled. What a bunch of nobs. I think the dealer will sometimes install additional security systems (maybe tracking systems) and then they try to get the consumer to buy it and continue service. But in this case, the dealer was trying to sell me something that was standard in the car. This is my first Honda; I'm not impressed with any of the dealers I spoke. I had a much better experience with the Chevy Fleet Manager.

I didn't think you could disable the factory alarm system. Maybe disconnect the connection to the horn?

For the record, I have generally never been impressed by any sales personnel in any Honda dealer. Generally very unprofessional, in the stereotypical "used car salesman" way.
