My nephew was 18, stupid and a passenger, teenagers are all going to live forever, well he is alive, 38 and a quadraplegic. No baseball, no basketball, no walking, NO SEX for the past 20 years. And to be quite frank the state has an absolute right to TELL you to wear your belt, driving, contrary to peoples opinion is a privilege, not a right, read our constitution, nothing in there about driving cars. So please lose the attitude especially around children as they pick up everything, especially the bad things.

I am very vocal about the whole seat belt thing... so I guess I should keep my mouth shut... but I just can't. For every story of a seatbelt saving a life there is one to the contrary. I have a family member who lived ONLY because he was thrown from the vehicle. Other than that I have received tickets for not wearing mine. In Jersey its a primary offense and the cops can pull you over for that only. Its sad that in the affluent community I work in the officers sit in the middle of the road and pull people over between 12 - 2 when all the businesses let out for lunch. Now you tell me they are doing it because they care???? Please...

My wife was the victim of a four car pileup back in 2000. A young navy guy fell asleep at the wheel and rear end her at 45 mph. The force was so great that she hit the car in front of her and the car in front of that person hit the car in front of them. The airbag deployed and knocked her out for a few minutes. When she came to, she was able to unbuckle herself and open the door to the people that were trying to get her out of the car. When I arrived at the scene I was amazed my wife had survived the accident. She had a dislocated shoulder and some burns to her face from the airbag. She's a very petite woman and if it wouldn't have been for that airbag she would not be alive today.

Front windshield defogger and road fumes
So the weather outside is rain+snow+sleet and I need to activate the front windshield defogger.
No problem, I press the button for front windshield defogger and it activates.
But, now the recirculated air drops as the system pulls in outside air. Not a problem on the highway, but in stop and go traffic in a city or urban street, the exhaust fumes begin to permeate the vehicle.
And there is no override.
So to keep the defogger active without gassing my passengers and me, I need to open a window to obtain some air to circulate and clear the passenger compartment
Isn’t this a clever nifty programming effort on the part of a Toyota denizen?

It sure would be nice to have some tie downs in the trunk.
Except for the hooks for where the cargo net can be affixed and where a package can be secured, there is no easy way to secure a basket or anything else in area aft of each wheel cover assembly. Yes, there are some torsion bars for the trunk lid but nothing really to keep items from rolling around.
I carry a few items and I wanted to keep them, in a plastic wastepaper basket on either side, e.g.: windshield washer fluid, paper towels, gloves, engine oil, leather cleaner, windshield ice spray, etc.
I don’t want to put in a milk box, as then I would lose luggage space which is already cramped with the depth of all the items below the rear deck that the pace is barely usable.

Center console lid is pain
The center console, between the seats and under the elbow, has a lid, which slides forward. As nice as it is to have this slide forward, access to the compartment is extremely difficult at all times.

I had the temperature control and all these gadgets back in 1985 in a Starion, I prefer MANUAL controls and I will decide what to open or not but we will all have to live with this stuff, even the low end cars have almost as much. I purchased the cargo carrier with the car it does take up room but easily removed, my biggest complaint is the access to the trunk, is it that difficult to have both seats go down as in the Camry or are people who purchase a slightly more top end car not supposed to got to Home depot or Lowe's for stuff. We all have our small complaints but all in all it is a good vehicle, not as much fun as my Triumph or Starion or Chevelle SS were but that was then..........

Hello Avytouring. I too have an 07 avalon and the seat belt chimes also drove me nuts. We also have an 06 GMC Envoy, and the seat belt chime in that vehicle only rings 3 or 4 times, the one in my Avy rang something like 39 or some ridiculous number. There is a way to over ride the seat belt chime. If you havent already gotten someone else to tell you how, email me at Rpfing aol.com and I will send you the instructions. However I am not saying you shouldn't use your seatbelt. I use mine, just hated that annoying chime. Drop me a line at the email address above and I'll be glad to help. have a great christmas.

The bells can be disabled. I have the Avalon 2007 Limited and found a work around on another website. It has to do with the odometer button and switching the key on and off and holding the button, but I do not know for sure. The little light stays on the dash but it does not ding me to death anymore. This shuts off the bell on both the driver and passenger belts.

Instrument panel Icon question

Hello all.. I have a question for you. Yesterday while driving to work I noticed a yellow Icon light was lit up on the instrument panel. It's kind of hard to describe. My best effort would be to say it resembled a "horseshoe" with some sort of symbol dead center in the middle of this "horseshoe". I know that's a lousy explanation but I can tell you exactly where it's located. It's located directly above the odometer reset button and just to the left and alittle bit down from the fuel gauge. If anyone has any idea what that light is, please let me know. By the way, the light was 'off" when I drove home from work tonight.
Thanks in advance for your help.

That could be the tire pressure monitoring system warning light.
