Besides, if someone really wanted to steal your gas, I doubt if a locked fuel door that could be opened in two seconds with a screwdriver would stop anyone willing to stand there for 15min trying to syphon out the gas.

Why not just buy a locking gas cap if you are worried about it? It's not going to keep out anyone who really wants to get in but combined with an alarm it should slow them down a bit.

The tank on a Fit is so small why would anyone bother.

They will steal out of the 26 gallon tank on that Suburban in the next row.

Just like car alarms, locking gas door really only stops the high school kids looking for something to do for kicks. I mean, lets face it, if someone really wanted to break in to your house, nevermind your gas door, they could do it easily enough. But you wouldn't leave your house unlocked, would you?

But if I really liked a house, not having a door lock wouldn't prevent me from buying it

You would buy a house with no lockable doors, and not put locks on them? That's the analogy you're using? Hmmm....I think not!

No, I said that if I wanted to buy a house and it didn't come with locks, I'd still buy it. Then later I'd decide if I needed to put locks on the doors depending on where I live.

Anyway...we're off track. We're talking about the impact to not having a locking fuel door/cap, and that impact is zero in my book.

in the last couple of weeks, that for the first time since this model came out, it looks like my local dealer has some in stock! They have finally stopped all going straight out the door to pre-orderers on delivery.

Could finally be time for me to take a proper test drive!

did you drive it yet?

i remember that when we took our fit for a run, i tried my best to discern the differences between it and out rabbit.

the negatives: obviously, less power. while the fit has A LOT less wieght to move around, the L15 in it is no powerhorse, but its sprightly and has breath on the upper rpm ranges, (unlike the 2.5 in the bunny). It just lacks a little midrange torque, but has nice off the line punch!

the engine is not buzzy, but much more noticable in whats its doing from an audible standpoint. having said that, its very quite at idle.

Since my rabbit was a six speed auto, (and an engine that was low revving in nature) i was anxious to see how high the fit would be revving on the freeway and around town. Slow driving in the rabbit didn't really see rpms above 2k. Cruising at 80miles per hour barely coaxed a 2400rpm rev.

The fit did better than i expected: i was assuming that at 80, i'd be around almost 4k! But being as i have the sport auto, it was a totally doable 3200. around down was around 2400-2600, so i'm more than happy with its performance.

One thing i immensely appreciated was the quick steering and overall reflexes of the car; what a great handler! Some sportier/thicker tires would do worlds for its handling, i see why its a tuner favorite now! And what excellent road feel! the rabbit has a silky smooth helm, but at low speeds, it was subject to its speed sensitve steering, which slowed things down quite a bit! it was ok for high speeds, but i like a responsive car no matter how fast i'm going. The abscence of body roll in the fit was wonderful too, fairly flat through corners.

all in all, the car is wonderful, and while i still miss certain aspects of the bunny, the fit is defintely go!
