Just had our 2007 EX V6 in for the 15,000 mile service. $199.95 Seemed like they through in a lot of stuff just to jack the price up. New air filter, fuel injection service, oil treatment, rotate tires, lube and oil change and a lot of checks (check this & that). I looked on the service board and the 30K service is twice the price but they do a transmission flush and a coolant flush.

Hi bgw,

Well I'd expect an oil change to be pretty much standard, I was thinking more of the longer term scheduled maintenances, kind of like what crewzin is hinting at, are they tossing in alot of extras so that in the end that great deal you thought you were getting ends up costing you the same... or more.

Don't get me wrong I like the Rondo, it's very practical and I enjoyed the ride, I'm just trying to do my homework.

Thanks for your input, anything you can add is appreciated.

You know, today we have it really good. I spent $34 on the 8,000 km service (5,000 miles) and crewzin spent $199.95 on his 15,000 mile service. All in all, this is not bad, really.
I read an old article some years ago (I'm only 40 so it must have been in the ancient 1990's...) about the service required for an early 1920's Mercedes (or was it a Rolls Royce? Sorry, can't remember). The service at 20,000 miles called for the car to be completely (!) disassembled, at which time all parts would be inspected for wear and replaced if necessary. Egad!

paint quality on 2007 Rondo by danandlin

I have 3000 miles on a 2007 Black Cherry Kia Rondo EXV6 and have noticed a number of stone chips on the hood. I have notified the dealer and am in the process of having this evaluated. I also own a 2003 Kia Sedona with 83,000 miles that has weathered over 15 trips back and forth to Florida from Ohio, mostly in the winter, and have no stone chips on the hood. This causes me some concern as to the quality of the paint on the Rondo. What will it look like after 20,000/30,000 miles? Otherwise, I'm extremely pleased with the performance of the Rondo.

Switching from 17" to 16" tires on a EX? by ramblinmo

Thinking of replacing the Michelin energy 225/50/17 tires with Goodyear Assurance ComforTred 205/60HR16

I think I have a busted belt on one of my tires (19K miles) and am planning a 5,000 mile road trip this summer. It hasn't been warm enough to crawl on the ground to take a look. Not really impressed with these tires and maybe the better tire will make a difference in the cornering and ride.

Another forum said that the diameter difference between these two tires is about .3%. The challenge will be to find some reasonable wheels I guess. Has anyone been through this?

bought '07 LX I4 2-row by vanner

We just bought, last Tuesday, a new '07 LX I4 two-row. I descibed the deal over on "Prices Paid".

Early impressions on it are all pretty good, including the 85 mile ride home that night. This is my wife's car, so she has all the miles. We traded in our '05 Sedona LX and getting rid of that dog for any price made the deal a good one for us.

Fit and finish are excellent for a car in this price range, even for ones in higher brackets. We've looked at a lot of models and brands. The design is, well, "cute" maybe, but one has to agree with "Ho Hum". Still it works. Incredible amount of creature and parcel space inside for a car that looks pretty small outside. (Yet I compared a Rondo to the Sedona on the lot and looks can be pretty deceiving - the Rondo just isn't all THAT much smaller, physically.)

I am very impressed with the headlights. VERY bright with excellent range, and the high-beams do a great job of also lighting up the sides. We all are pleased with the heater, getting heat very early, and needing to "take some logs off the fire" after just a few miles.

My wife loves the visibility, and although she sits a couple inches lower than in the Sedona, the low belt-line and giant glass area make it seem the same. Rear visiblity is MUCH better with so much less of a rear quarter blind-spot.

"Stash-space" is more than adequate and the Koreans obviously place great value on power ports. The front shade visors are tricky and cute, and though I can't say I ever begged for one, the little "bag hook" for the front passenger is clever.

Not fond of the hinged assist handles, thinking they won't last long if anyone relies on them a lot.

VERY impressed with the tremendous leg room for rear passengers. I'm a tad over 6' and somewhere around 215 pounds, and there just isn't any trouble sitting back there, even with the front seats where those people want them. Certainly our two kids are comfortable back there, and they love it.

Both the front and huge rear doors offer the easiest entry and exit I've ever experienced in something not classed as a limo! Headroom is more than generous! The front headrests are indeed "gimmicky" and I can see why some have complained if they don't like being in contact with the rests. Frankly, we like the feel so it isn't an issue for us and maybe if you learn how to set them, you'll be okay.

Interior lighting is nice but I sure wish the front overhead lights functioned as entry/exit courtesy lights. That is annoying, and the lack of front footwell lights is a shortcoming as well. Overhead lights, either front or rear, do not glare off the windshield at night and can be used without annoyance to the driver. I like that.

The I4 is plenty peppy enough for us. Drive home on I-64 from Lexington KY to Louisville with two adults, a teenager and a pre-teener, it never shifted or "hunted" once on the mid-sized highway hills there. (My own Chevy Tracker/Suzuki Vitara 2.0L 4 auto ALWAYS shifts several times on these hills.) Oh sure, a lot less grunt than the old Sedona, but plenty enough for this car. Without traction-control or ESC, the old Sedona was frankly over-powered for most drivers in most situations. Also, this thing WILL get MUCH better mpg than the Sedona!

OEM Hankook Optima tires are crap and sound like it on concrete! Not all that bad on blacktop - overall road noise is about the same as the Sedona I think, at speed, but the wind noise seems less with the Rondo. The Sedona was very noisy, especially from the front side windows and roof rack.

About it for now. We're hunting down decent window tint and some sort of side body rub/bump protection now. Tips from you folks are appreciated. Already got the wheel locks.

I'm considering synthetic motor oil first change, but only for added mpg. At four times the price of premium mineral oil, is there any real data it's worth it? How can it effect change interval, within warranty needs, and what do you do about oil filters? Use the same as mineral oil? (Once upon a time, there were different filters for synthetics but I suspect that was a marketing gimmic.)

We're pleased at one week and 200 miles. I'll update if anything is important enough.

congrats on your purchase and your initial general views on your Rondo. My wife appreciates the bag hook. We both find the headrest excellent as well as the rear exit and entry as you mentioned. My daughter, after her first trip has nicknamed it "the limo". I agree with you on the front overhead lights and footwell light oversight (had it on my last vehicle), haven't checked out the overhead lights for glare - didn't think of it.

We enjoy the 2.4L and impressed with power and performance and appreciate the manual feature (for bad weather conditions) of the Steptronic transmission. I bought the following accessories with our vehicle: window visors (4); rear bumper protector; hood protector; and the 3-piece all weather rubber floor mats. I am getting close to 6000km (3700 miles).

Ours came with all but the hood protector and visors. Where did you get your visors? Kia doesn't offer them outright here, but the dealers can get them.

I may eventually put foglamps on this, but I'll pick some good ones and wire the relay into the parking lamp circuit like I did in the old days, so I can run just them and not the main headlights. Not legal everywhere but sure cuts down on back-glare.

You're onto that Steptronic already! You're Canadian and I'm a native of the Buffalo, NY area for 36 years. I still value starting out in "2" instead of "D"!!!

all my accessories are dealer installed, none of them come from KIA directly that way. My model has the fog lamps as standard. They are wired in with low beams only and disconnect if you switch on your highs.

I agree with you I've used the Steptronic starting out in 2nd many times in this lousy weather.
