I don't think that I am getting through to you. The MSRP is not set by Toyota or the local dealer, but by the Toyota Region. If I buy a car in Wynne, Arkansas (SE region)see www.rosstoyota.com, the fluff stuff will be part of the MSRP. This MSRP will be the same at any SE Region dealer. If I buy in Memphis, TN (MI, OH, KY, TN region)see www.wolfchasetoyota.com 40 miles away, this junk will not be part of the MSRP. I can go to all three dealers in Memphis and the MSRP will be the same at each of them. Check out for yourself.

Just out of curiosity, by "fluff" do you mean port installed options like floormats and bumper guards? Stuff like that?

If so, I've never seen the port "fluff" amount to more than a couple hundred bucks or so. I even got the bumper guard and mats on mine (and I work here lol).

If you're referring to the regional fees (destination and admin of about $355 extra) Toyota charges for the southeast region, it's primarily because of extra freight (distance from port) and local laws (admin) NOT additional profit.

Those are DEALER add-ons on what is called an addendum. For example, we offer a paint/fabric protection program for $995.00 (it's optional, and most definitely NOT a product from the factory). We put it on the window in addition to the MSRP (it's a similar looking, smaller sticker).

Look at the actual MSRP sticker for what comes from the factory.

They are NOT options on the factory MSRP.

If your local dealers are charging that on a YARIS I would indeed look elsewhere (FJ's and Hybrids are about all that demand a premium these days...).

Hey! My cargo net gets extremely dirty! It's only common sense I'd get a cleaner for it sheesh...

And don't forget my undercoating coating... I've gotta protect that... or else what else is there between me and the floormat guard tray protectors?

They are not dealer add-ons, check the inventory of any dealer in the southeast region, you will see it across the region, not on every car, but on a very high percentage.

"not on every car, but on a very high percentage"

You say it all right there.

It is DEALER INSTALLED if it is not on the factory MSRP label.

Until you see the actual window sticker, don't rely on what you see on the internet sites of a few dealers. Certain dealers will always try and get away with selling you as much as they can (and they should, but that's another topic altogether lol...).

They're dealer addendums, plain and simple.

It's not Toyota, it's those darn greedy dealers trying to milk you for every cent they can... Darn capitalists

Every Toyota sold in the Southeast region has the "Toyoguard package", a bunch of useless crap like fabric guard and "extra undercoating protection". It costs $699 and is a TOTAL rip-off. If I lived in the Southeast, there is NO QUESTION I would go outside the region to purchase a Toyota, or more likely buy a different brand of car.

And in the Gulf States, do you know how hard it is to buy a Toyota that doesn't have added pinstripes (for a fancy fee), VIN etching (another fancy fee), and quite often some of the same needless crap in the Southeast Toyota Toyoguard package?

In both regions, these items appear as part of the MSRP on the Monroney sticker, because they are port-installed, NOT dealer-installed.

These items are put on by these two distributors on every car they sell (port-installed). IMO, only the Toyotas distributed by Toyota Motor Sales (the rest of the country besides the Southeast and Gulf States, including California thank goodness) are an honest deal. SET and Gulf States Toyota are "fluffing" their MSRPs to boost profit by making needless crap standard on all their cars which the buyer has no way to opt out of, and which do nothing to improve the value of the car.

Well if that is the case (it's on the actual MSRP and not an addendum label), it's STILL not Toyota, it's the dealership alliance in your area/region.

My suggestion, if that is the case, would be to either fly to a different region ($200 or less one way), and have someone from a dealer out there pick you up in the car (I would, even on a lowly Yaris deal haha) or have one shipped.

In fairness, I have never sold in the southeast region, but if that's what's really happenening the only way to change it is for people to STOP buying it.
