#1 of 5 New Toshiba Nano Battery Cell Breakthrough!

A lot of energy is lost to heat when charging current lithium batteries. Imagine a battery that takes only a few minutes to fully charge with virtually no power loss to heat, has excellent power characteristics, high energy density, can handle extreme temperatures, and will virtually never wear out. If Toshiba's claims are true about their new nano lithium-ion battery it will make the perfect energy source for hybrid electric vehicles.

Although exciting (and I hope promising), you do realize this article is over a year old. I wonder where the technology at today?

www.phoenixmotorcars.com or google "altairnano" This vehicle is happening now. They are preparing to produce a light truck for fleet applications that has a (claimed) top speed of 95mph a range of over 100 miles and and a battery life in excess of ten years or 250K. 0 to 60 mph in 10.0 seconds. Things are getting VERY INTERESTING!

I agree. Advanced battery technology is a very competitive field right now. I'm sure some of these companies will fall by the wayside but one things almost a certainty; consumers interested in EVs will be the winners. I drive a 2003 Honda Accord right now and I've vowed to make it my last ICE vehicle. Hondas can last a long time so I've got a pretty big window to make this happen.

Saving this thread so I can post it to TPE in 2010 when he finally breaks down.
