Talked to a Boston, MA area dealers and they are giving $2200 under msrp for any GT package. That was without negotiating. I have been monitoring two dealership inventories and it just keeps going up. Talked to two salesman and they said everyone is concerned about the premium gas and weak engine. One salesman said if the engine was as good as the body we would be getting 2200 over msrp". Looks like I will be buying a minivan.

That's amazing - and a little hard to believe, since there is barely $2200 difference between invoice and MSRP on a GT with the Tech Package. Maybe Boston is the place to shop for a CX-7!

As far as the premium gas, I personally don't sweat it too much. I'll be at the pump right there with the guy in his $37,000 RDX...

Pricing facts by taz6

Forget MSRP because nobody pays it, I hope. Invoice is only what the dealer supposedly pays for the vehicle. This does not include holdback, usually equal to the delivery charge, for the incedentals like vehicle set up and polishing. this is released to the dealer when the vehicle is sold. Then you have cash incentives which american companies give to the buyer, japanese to the seller. Since this is a new vehicles there are no incentives except for the dealer to clear lot space and create volume.

From the Boston Globe on sunday August 13,2006
Ira mazda 2900 off msrp, Quirk mazda 2400 of msrp.
During the week 128 Mazda advertised 2690 off msrp.
I know that these are just to get you in the door, but the biggest factor is that the seven dealers near me have over 250 vehicle in stock up from last week of 230.

$250 below invoice by cruzdreamer

I have an email from a sales manager that he would do $250 below invoice for me to earn my business. Told him they were up against another dealer. He was seeking me out after he saw my for sale sign while my RX 8 was in getting serviced so I began to chat with him through email. I am just waiting for my investment property to sell before I buy the CX 7. Now I can go back to the other dealer and see if they can top that or get me more for my trade....it's still a buyer's market gang. Go for invoice pricing right off the bat! This dealer has about 4 CX 7's the other about 9 CX 7's. Hold out for your deal!!!!

How about $1500-$2000 below invoice 3 months from now when you run out of room to park all of your CX-7's that you can't move at the current invoice....just kidding.....On a serious note, I was impressed with CX-7 but it seems that Mazda is not selling them as fast for a brand new model, even in the first few months of its release. If the trend continues, you will see big time discount toward the end of the year.

I understand you salesman don't want to sell all of the cars at invoice but people who do their research and know all about the vehicle etc., are the ones you may have to sell them for less or close to invoice, Unfortunately, the car biz is not exactly booming. My uncle owns a Ford dealer, my sister in law manages an office at a Lincoln Mercury dealer and my brother has been a salesman since 1985. I feel bad but finally I can get a decent price on a car instead of feeling taken. I would buy through my family members and I have in the past but since I have been buying brand new Mazda's I am on my own. Hope you have a good year anyway!!! Good luck!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I used Edmunds to send quote requests to some Chicago area dealers, and just signed for a Copper Sport AWD w/ Sunroof/Bose/Power Seat and mirror w/ compass for $26,531.

Didn't even haggle - they offered invoice, and I took it.

Very nice car buying experience. Pretty soon the CX-7 will take up a place in the garage next to my '93 Miata.

The fiance fell in love w/ the CX-7, and I wasn't going to argue!

Mazda's historically don't fly off the shelves initially...the 3 actually took 4-6 months before it started to take off. The 6 was the same way. When the Tribute was launched it sat for a few months and then had 6-8 month waiting list after that. Mazda doesn't have the marketing might of Toyota or Honda so word of mouth and other forms of creative marketing often take a while to catch on......Also there is another angle that folks may not be aware, this past week there was an article in Automotive news stating that mazda was essentially getting out of the rebate game and the CX7 was not going to be rebated like some domestic built mazda's have been...a price comparison vs. the cx competition shows the price to be right on target. Mazda also made the dealer margins very tight to keep wheeling and dealing to a minimum.

The CX-7 is a very good vehicle that brings alot to the table for a very fair price....the word will get out and if gas prices level off a bit the CX will sell fine. Build a great vehicle and people will come.
