You're very welcome, anchovy. It definitely is very time consuming . What you were told is correct. When Toyota introduced the special option package discounts on the Prius in April it stopped providing special lease money factors on it. As a result, if you were to lease one through Toyota Financial Services right now, you would have to use its standard lease program. Its standard money factor varies somewhat by region, but the factor that you mentioned looks about right to me. The best that you can do is shop around for the lowest possible selling price on the Prius that you want and have the dealer that gives it to you use the money factor that you mentioned to calculate your monthly payment.

Hi Jerry . I see that you are considering trading in your Camry on a lease of a new Prius. There's nothing wrong with trading in a vehicle when leasing, however it would be in your best interest to have the dealer that you are working with cut you a check for your trade rather than using the proceeds from it as a down payment for your lease. I always advise consumers against making large down payments on leases. Those who do risk losing part or all of their down payment if their vehicle is totaled in an accident or stolen and never recovered.

The lease money factor that you were quoted for the Prius that you are interested in looks about right to me. In your post you mentioned that this car's cap cost is $23,236.38. Is this before or after the down payment is applied? If it is before, this is a great deal. If this is after, not so much.

Residuals by youngjo6

Car_man,
First of all, you're a saint.
I'm looking at a 2007 package 2 with a net cap cost=21995 and a money factor=.0025.
I was wondering if you knew the current residuals for area codes 93030 and 93101(Oxnard and Santa Barbara CA) and if 21995 is a good price for that model.
Thanks!!!

I am just wondering if I can negotiate the security deposit and acquisition fee out. Is everyone paying those or not? Thanks.

Hi -
Looks like a solid deal. Do you have contact info (email) for your salesman? And is the $332 with tax (as in that's what you right the check for every month?) or do you actually pay $350 something monthly?

Did you discuss 12k per year by chance??

Thanks so much!

To Lease or to Buy? by lifeisgood8

Hi!

I'm ready to dump my gas-guzzling, leased Mercedes for a Prius. My last two cars were leased and I’ve become accustomed to being able to get a new car every 3 to 4 years without the hassle of repairs, depreciation of car value etc.

The car dealer faxed me the rate sheet and next week I go in to negotiate. I need to decide whether leasing a Prius is a good idea or not. (Hi CarMan! I read an earlier post where you cited concern over owning the Prius since it is relatively new in the marketplace – namely the potential high cost of replacing the battery.)

1st question: Is this a good deal? And where is there room to negotiate?
Base Model - $22,175
Package #6 - $4550
Rear Bumper Applique (?) $65
Wheel Locks (alloy) $65
Preferred Acess Pkg. - $277
Destination Charge - $620

Total $27,752

I live in Connecticut (06807) and there is no tax on the car.

2nd Question: All the dealers insist that buying is the way to go because Toyota isn’t offering a great lease deal. What are your thoughts?

Thanks a million!

With the 2008 Model the EPA estimate on all cars is going down to realistic numbers, for Prius it will go from 60/51 to 48/45 so that will hurt them. Gas prices traditionally drop as summer goes down and the tax credit ends all together on Prius, Oct 1 I believe. I believe Toyota will be offering incentives very soon on Prius'

Best money factor on a lease I saw in my research was .0011 back in March, best I got offered in the past week was .0025

Right now, buying is better than leasing but it may not be long until that changes. Just my speculation based on some solid facts, I have no inside info.

Thanks so much Scott! Any insight on the price they are offering for the car and what is realistically negotiable?
Thanks!

Check out priuschat.com for pricing. I think people are able to get package 6 touring for about $26300, maybe $26000 for package 6 non-touring. That price is not that good.
