I have a 2001 chevy silverado 1500 LS. I was driving uphill one day and my truck was losing power and was not shifting to 3rd gear. At that time, a loud and schreeching noise came from the undercarriage. Thats when the truck stalled on the hill and died out. I restarted the truck again, it starts up and idles for a bit but then dies out. My truck was towed back to the house for further review. I used a GM scantool to scan for error codes. The codes that pulled up were p0300, P0101, and P0135. I know the meaning for all of these codes and replace everything except p0300. The scantool also showed 1, 3, 5, 7 of the enigine side was not responding. I was told it could be the catalytic converter. Where do I begin with this? I am not looking for the "quick" fix, but just the right fix. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi We have almost the same problem, except we are eating mid-grade life time brakes within 9 months to a year,we changed rotors and brakes and now the noise is worse then ever, My brother said he had the same problem and it was the hub,and that the axle can slip right out, we are going to the chev dealer Wednesday, and will now then, wish me luck, If you have found out anything differnt please let me know/ thanks

#213 of 265 2006 Silvervado Diesel - vibration/growling noises by sgg

Sep 28, 2011 (6:25 am)

Hello, sorry to interrupt the thread...my issue started 1 week ago with vibration/growling noises at about 10 mph as I let the gas go and almost stopping. Thought it was a heat shield but no go. This week it has become louder and happens at 40 mph. Also when I turn off the engine, it does a "clunk" noise. When I take it to an auto shop - murphy's law - the vibration is not as loud so the mechanics can't really hear it. They also said the "clunk" noise is normal. I don't think so! The truck has 78K and has always been taken care of. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks so much! S.

#214 of 265 2011 silverado 6 speed NOISE!!!!, by gmbailout

I TOO HAVE A NOISEY 6 SPEED THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED IF I KNEW THIS WAS THE DESIGN .My truck downshifts when i slow and each gear it clanks and pops from the driveline, and of course when you are on/off the gas at any speed and it leaped forward when i came to a stop twice like it was stuck in 2nd-it downshifted into 1st and it gave itself throttle!!!,I almost rearended someone. My first brand new vehicle and I cant stand rattles and noises,I have owned a 90&97 which had some play in the suspension/driveline after many miles ,but this truck is literally driving me nuts. Took it to 4 dealers and nothing, they are all deaf and the sounds I hear are normal and thats the charictaristics of the 6 speed.I'm pissed because it started around 400 miles and I called and took it in,"its learning-keep driving" so I drove. Another 3k and its still banging away, bring it in and the same answer, keep driving. Then after 6k another dealer, same and the 4th was back to where I purchased it , now she is pushing 10k. We dont hear anything, normal charictaristics, so I went into the showroom to see what I will get for it,what a loss. The salesman had no interest in helping me, but bending me over on a 4.8 model without the 6 speed,he said he needed to call Ally to see what I owed to make a "fair"deal??just tell me what you will give me and how much for this one, not what kinda payment are you looking for-sir.I gave the guy me info to make him happy ,then he adds $500 on to what I owe because I gave him a estimate ,I went online on my phone while he called!! I called customer service and went back and forth to get at least some kind of Xtra compensation on a trade above bluebook considering they told me to keep driving,it will go away and it has severly depreciated. Customer service reply---sorry,we dont warranty noises

#215 of 265 2005 Gmc sierra 2500hd hum/vibration at 60 & 70 by royva

Oct 16, 2011 (5:12 am)

Hi folks, I had a bad grinding noise in my transfer case. I brought it in and they said the TC is shot. The local gm dealer found one and I had it installed a lone with a front ujoint and yoke.. The original unit was np261hd the reman unit only has a gm part number on it 24228435 and when I searched the number it comes up with nv261. I would think there still the same though new venture or new prosess...Now I have a hum-vibration right at 60 then it kinda goes away then at 70-75 it get real bad. I can feel the hum/vibration through the floor board steering wheel seat, it like sitting in one of them vibarating chairs at the mall ... Im thinking the driveshaft might be un-balanced....
Has anyone been through this ??

I have a 02 Silverado that has 151,000 and does the same thing. It is a defect
in the skirt piston length, and over time it builds up carbon on pistons.

It sound like a knock and tick on start up on cold mornings. No harm donel

Run 5-30, quiets it down, if your really want to go to all the effort, pull the spark plugs, put Sea Foam down in the holes, let it soak overnight,
cold crank the engine a few times to push the foam out, put the plugs back in
It will smoke like hell. Change the oil soon after, as it may be contaminated.

Should get rid of most of the noise.

royva,
Did the dealer perform the repair? If so, I would definitely recommend calling them and letting them know of the vibrations that were not previously there. Please keep me updated.
