Replying to: mertier (Mar 06, 2006 3:40 am) When you reset your oil light you have to turn the ignition to the on position and push the accerator pedal down very quickly or fast 3 times for it to reset. For the won't start if it is the original battery it was probley on its way out to be replaced and if not I would check the battery, and having the oil changer spending time trying to to reset the oil light it might of helped wear down the battery. The newer vehicles are more high tech in electronics,relays and control modulors and require a good strong battery. I hope this will help. In 4 days, I will "celebrate" (term used loosely!!) one year ownership of 2001 Aztek. Has been in the shop twice for AC work (still not running), check engine light stays on (mechanic could not sufficiently explain), now it is sitting as it will not start. I am assuming the latest issue is battery related but do not have funds to take to the shop. As a divorced mom of 17 y/o daughter, I told dealer I needed something reliable and low maintenance and this is what I got!!!! Frankly, this website has scared me to death due to all of the negative e-mails regarding this vehicle. I want to learn basic vehicle repair as does my daughter, but I think I might have been hoodwinked (if that is a word!!) I can't afford a tow to auto parts store for them to check battery. May have to take it out and deliver for testing that way. However, I just found a message discussing the difficulty of battery removal and replacement. Can anyone advise...cut my losses or give it a shot??????? We would hate to give up since it took us quite some time to get to know and love our ugly, I mean unique baby!!!!!!!!!!!!

we have had nothing but brake problems with this car all after the warranty expired. all hubs have been pulled. all pads, rotors replaced. we finally went to an independent mechanic and the drive shaft is worn. all this at 55,000. there has been ongoing problems with the passenger side rear wheel. Brakes and growling noises. anyone else?

Replying to: 59aztek (Apr 30, 2006 2:38 am) Just an FYI, because I had trouble resetting the oil light. The key has to be on for a full 5 seconds or the light will not reset. While driving to church on Thanksgiving weekend my 2001 Aztek suddenly over-rev ed. I released the accelerator and stopped at the stop sign. When I proceeded I discovered I had no forward or reverse gears. The park worked and the engine was fine. There were no warning lights, noises, or bumps. I consulted a mechanic who felt the transmission was not at fault, maybe the computer or something in the transmission that makes the connection. Any thoughts?

I have been going through many of these emails and I too have the same questions but no answers. No mechanic can seem to tell me what is wrong with my vehicle. About three weeks ago, as I always do, I drove to work which is about 45 minutes from my home. When I put the vehicle in park and tried to cut off the ignition, my key only turned half way and that was it. I didn't know what to do. So after about 30 minutes of trying figure out what the problem was, I cranked the vehicle back up, put it in reverse and and then back into drive after the wheels made a complete rotation. For some unknown reason, this worked. Can somebody please tell me why this happens?
