Sad to see GM is still having the same problems on the newer trucks over the last several years. I'm not really surprised, but where are the quality improvements GM? GM asks me to pay 30k+ for a new truck that has similar quality issues to my already paid for '99 Sierra..... No Thanks GM! |

Just bought a 97 Sierra 2500, 92M miles, checked out by a mechanic. Runs fine, but everytime I drive to my cabin, at about 100 miles into trip (same spot in road on MN 48 25 miles E of Hinckley, MN) ABS light comes on, speedometer drops to zero, then flutters, tranny slips/cluncks, and can only go about 30 mph. After a while everything returns to normal. We've run it farther distances on hot days, even pulling boat - no issues. Mechanic is mystified - no codes. I love this truck. Please help!

under that spot in the road.... If it is the tranny you could be looking at a $2K repair bill for a $500 truck with 160K miles. |

My '05 Silverado Z71 came with 265/70/17's and I put on some 275/60/20's about a month ago. They are about 1.4" taller than stock. About a week ago, my truck started vibrating when slowing down, almost like it's not downshifting properly. Could this be caused by slightly taller tires? I put the stock wheels back on, but it still does it.

brake wear, throw off your odometer and speedometer readings, create harsher ride etc etc. Why didn't you install 275/55 instead of the 60s? It would've given you the same stock height of the 265/70 profile thus unchanging your odometer and speedometer? I seriously doubt that the changed caused any damage to the 4L60E. I'd leave the stocks on and take it into the dealer to check out if you're still under warranty. Not sure if this will help but you could also try and unplug the battery for 30 minutes then reconnecting and trying it again.
