My 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4 x 4 looses power when my transmission temp gets between 180-200 degrees. It only gets hot on the hot summer days or when I tow my boat. There is also an unusual noise(higher RPM?) in the transmission when I take off after sitting a controlled intersection. I get my vehicle serviced on a regular basis. 42,700.. easy on her, no hauling, no towing..all highway miles....just went, no warning. I did have a little ride on slush ice the day before she went, down shifted and upshifted from D to 3 maybe a dozen times. next day, slipping and serious grinding growl. perplexing indeed. My 97 Jimmy Z-71 v-8 4wd has been bullitt proof..I am knocking on wood. Any insight. 06 did start using a new trans type correct?? I have the v-6 vortec WT 4 sp auto 2wd. Uses the new VI fluid type. Replying to: jsross44 (Jan 29, 2007 7:09 pm) Start saving your money for a new transmission, GM Will be of no help, Afterall this is normal according to their service notice.  I sold mine after getting tired of beating a dead horse trying to talk to G.M. i bought a new style 07 1500 w/the 6.0 vortex max package. the first gear always sounded like it had a whine but at 7,500 miles it has gone. bought it dec 05 2006. it came apart and gm said they will rebuild it. i wanted a new transmission but the warranty says rebuild. i will be taking them up on that new 100,000mile factory warranty.

Besides the normal 4.8 Carbon Tap, my Truck runs like a clock. 200+ miles a day. 19-21 MPG. I have 190,000 miles on it now. For the last 10K miles I am experiencing a violent bucking at between 50 and 60 mph. It seems to only occur when I am cruising along, with or withour cruise control, and hit an upward grade. If I hit the brake it eases up. It also seems to disappear if I go in to passing gear. I also feel a gentle bumping at idle with my foot on the brake. Could this be a Tourque Converter problem? Chevy wants to do a Tranny Swap $2, 500.00, but hasn't even checked it out. The Truck has been well maintained. Has anybody else had this experience? My Z 71 has 17,500 (+-)miles. Initially I took it in because it shifted rough out of first gear from the git-go. They reprogrammed the computer which did nothing for the shifting problem, but ever since occasionally when I start it up, it will be in four wheel drive. I have had it back two more times, the problem continues. I also am only getting about 14 mpg, and I drive about half highway miles. Something ain't right. Replying to: oomag12 (Mar 18, 2007 9:18 am) Well, GM agreed to absorb half the cost of 3600.00 new installed tranny. I spent a week on the phone, and thats the best i could drag out of them. They know at that price, legal recourse by a single individual is not likely. Believe me, they really try to push you over the edge, they want you to go off and get belidegrent so they can justify denial of the claim. I did locate a salvage 06 trans with 2K for 1000.00 and its warranted for 2 years or 20K. I'm a lifelong GM guy, I have gone to bat for the brand countless times, but like the treachory of so-called close friend, i really stupid for it at this time. I let thier customer service folk know how i feel also. Thier CEO Waggoner, has corporate mission statement, that basically says Integrity and customer enthusiam were GM's top objective. What a joke. You can read it on thier site. I quoted him during negociations and i believe it helped to get them to cover half. Really, I don't believe i will ever buy a new GM product again.
