It's been interesting here in Atlanta, all the used Insights have disappeared in the last few weeks. When gas prices started climbing, I checked a certain online site that lists used cars. There were used 39 Insights within 300 miles of Atlanta. As of today, they have four listed. As a single guy, I'm starting to wonder if it would make sense for me to look at one. I loved my old CRX, but the Insight isn't quite as peppy. Still, the MPG is awfully tempting. Especially with price gouging on new Civics. I can't even fathom how much Civic Hybrids will be going for when the new model is released.

It is a chickmagnet, but it's also much more efficient to drive yourself around (who needs 5 empty seats?). I am loving my tank average of 72 mpg. No, it's not really peppy, but it can certainly accelerate when you need it to. You're just discouraged from lowering your mileage to do so! The long delivery time put different stresses on the dealer-customer relationship. My novice salesman lost interest and stopped updating me on the order status, but the owner patched things up with me (after firing the novice), and I now have a contact "at the top" who is interested in keeping me and his other customers satisfied. I recommend Casey Honda of Newport News, VA. I only wish they stocked Insights on the lot, but they can only get 3 for the March-May 2006 time period. |

i am interested in getting a new insight, however, the lack of color choices annoys the crap out of me. i remember in 2001(?) it was available in a neon green color. if someone knows the years that color was available tell me please. also, i've been reading what comes standard, and asside from not having side air bags, all seems good. however, in the photos i've seen, i see an outlet for a cigarette lighter, but no ashtray, does the insight have a built in ashtray, or is a smoker's package required (if offered, i know kia and gm offer one). also, does anyone know if it comes with cruise control, or if it's available? the main things i want in a car are cruise, preferably manual, sunroof (not an option but i can handle that), power windows, and AC. i know the insight comes with AC as an option on the stick shift, but i haven't seen anything else. does it come with power windows? i see it comes with power locks and they usually go hand in hand... anyway, any help is appreciated and thank you. also, yes i know it is a two seater. however, i am 6'4" and in my old car (a '97 cavalier) i had to have the seats all the way back and also reclined. does the seats recline very far? or are they power operated? pretty much, i have narrowed down my two last vehicles down to an insight or a new kia rio5. the rio5 lacks a lot a items (cruise, ABS, sunroof, and it has this new black plastic cladding that is similar to what my cavalier had on it some years ago) i like the stylig of the insight, and it seems like the perfect car for L.A. wear i'll be moving to shortly. does anyone have any advice? from. --Rob. |

Replying to: midnightcowboy (Jun 24, 2003 1:32 pm) traveling from massachusetts to north carolina on a fairly regular basis, 80-85 is easy but the mpg suffers. last time averaged 48.9 but still i'm vey pleased with that and the speed. one driver, back crammed with lots of stuff. |

I have a 2000 Insight that I need to sell so I can move overseas. It only has 49k miles on it and a friend recommended CarMax as a place to give a good deal. Maybe on a newer car they make good offers, but I was told 3k to "take it off my hands". So how do you feel about that offer, CJ? Um, unimpressed! My local Honda dealer offered 5k as is (a tire stripped off some rubber and did minor damage to the rear bumper. With gas at about $3.40 in Southern California and my mileage at 57MPG despite driving in mixed traffic, I think they can do better. What do y'all think? CJ

Replying to: cjoc (Jun 05, 2007 11:56 am) I think the dealers really could do better. I am in the market for an Insight and might be interested in yours. Shoot me and email at divxprocodec at(sign) hotmail.com with some pics and info and maybe we could work something out. If not, best of luck getting fair value out of it mate. Regards, Chris |
