...but "reclining front seat back" sounds more like the regular adjustment for back angle, using the flip lever found on the side of the seat, at the hinge. In order for the magic seats to go into refresh mode, they absolutely must be able to recline back.

In this interior picture of the base Fit, you can see both the back recline release (seat bottom), and the refresh release (seat back side, near the top):

Honda usually refers to a seat height adjustment option, which isn't specifically listed in the Fit specs. That's what we're looking for documentation on.

My local auto show (Motor Trend's Virginia International Auto Show in Richmond, VA) isn't until March 10th, so if no one can confirm the seat height adjustment before then, I'll check it out, when I go. Oh, and I noticed I can get in for free with my AAA card on Friday!

I believe the only functions the front seats have in the US Fit are the front-backward movement along the track, and the forward-backward movement of the seatbacks (used in Refresh and Long modes).
That is not to say there isn't a height adjuster, but hondanews.com makes no mention of it, and all of the European Jazzes have a large dial-knob on the side of the seat. Even the diagram from the Japanese owner's manual had a dial on the side of the seat.
When it comes down to it, the cars I have owned in the past are "primitive" in their seating functionality so what the Fit has is fine for me, but for the sake of all of those who need it, I hope the height adjuster is there.

...and of course the two auto shows I am close to either never had the Fit (San Diego) or had the Fit at the end (Los Angeles) and I didn't know about it.
Oh well, I will have to wait until April.

I've owned many cars without height-adjustable driver's seats too, but the driving position was engineered so that I was comfortable. Without a height adjustment, and/or a telescopic wheel, the Fit's driving position will be intolerable for me.

The lever on the right side bottom of the driver's seat is the seatback adjustment, not a height adjuster.

If the European and Japanese Fits have a height adjuster and the U.S. model does not, that will be even more incomprehensible. However, it does mean that the height adjuster would be easy to add. That is what Honda did with the '02 Civic, when the '01 came out without a height adjuster and they were upstaged by the likes of the '01 Elantra with its height adjuster. So Honda acted pretty quickly in that case. Unfortunately, since the Fit will be a '07 model there might not be any changes until the fall of '07.

I agree.. the "Fit" doesn't fit... just another ugly Honda out there now. After the introduction of new Civic, Ridgline, and now Fit, I'm convinced the Honda engineers thought ugly was the new pretty.

And I know MT called the first two mentioned their COTY, but they obviously had their eyes closed when they did!

PEEEWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Not just Motor Trend, but the North America Car and Truck of the Year, and last week the Automobile Journalists of Canada(AJAC)Car and Truck of the Year.

For a miniature station wagon, I don't think it's that bad looking. Not much that can be done to make a box and a triangle look really interesting. If you want great looks, get a Corvette or a Mustang.

I wouldn't say the Civic is ugly, I actually really like the coupe's styling. But it's obviously subjective.

Honda finally took a bold step with then new Civic. Some may like it, and some may not. It seems to be paying off with the rapid sales increase. Every time I visit the Honda dealer (and the recent visit to the autoshow), I hear mixed opinions. I noticed that it's either your love it, or hate it. I heard few middle opinions.

IMO, the Fit is not that bad looking.

Consider my family to be in the category of really liking the Fit, and hating the new Civic's style.

I know backy has been concerned about the seat height adjustment situation (which we're still trying to get confirmation on), but no one has been totally trashing the car until the last couple of days. What the heck is up with that?

The Fit is what it is - an economical car that can carry tons o' stuff... and for anyone to be trying to think of the Fit as a sports car, is (in my opinion) just trying to fool themselves (although Honda's ad campaign isn't doing much to dissuade that theory).

I happen to think the Fit looks quite good. It was ahead of its time in 2001, and that's why it remains competitive. The time for a full model change is nearing, but the 1st generation Fit is aging well.
The only qualm I have with it is that it didn't arrive sooner.
I'm looking forward to delivery.

When a company designs a car, not everyone will like it. If Honda would have kept the 8th generation Civic's changes as just evolutionary, people would complain. When they make drastic changes, people complain. As for Honda, they are winning with Civic sales up 56% on the year.

Tacoboy, there's a lot more that goes into a car being sports oriented other than it saying "sports oriented, or sports inspired" in the brochure you get from Honda. I see little point as to why they'd offer a more expensive version of this car that's supposed to be affordable. Would puting 16 inch rims and 140hp on a car make it now "sports oriented?" So it would then go 0-60 in 9 seconds instead of 11.3?? In that case, I hope they put 16 inch rims and a pretty aero package on the Daewoo Leganza so more people buy it. The reason a lot of car critics and magazines bashed the previous Si was 1) right off the bat it was a hatch whereas the last model Si was a coupe, hatches in the US just have never done as well as traditional coupes, and 2) because stacked up against it's competition it didn't do all that great. The arguments weren't completely unjustified, (of course there's a certain amount of subjectivity) but it's car by car comparisons that tell the truth, and it didn't stack up amazingly. The Ridgeline is awesome, I love it. However, I think the new civc is gross, I'm not a fan of any car with a hoodline that just falls off the face of the earth right after the windshield. Is it a good car though for it's intended use, yes, that's not a question. Aesthetically pleasing I think the Civc is gross, and I think the Fit is ugly...to babeable at best. In my honest opinion I think it looks like some sort of underwater submersival. It could possibly replace the Civic Hatch but lets face it, if the Civic hatch was selling like the Pam and Tommy Lee video they would've made a Civic hatch again. Also, keep in mind that a large part of the demographic that purchases civic hatches, and even civics or hondas in general are those that modify, maximize and customize their rides. I don't know if I see a lot of these people running to the doors of Honda asking for their new Fit that their "oh-so-ready" to slap rims and a turbo on. Hooking up Hondas has become a cult following, and I think brining cars along that still hold that potential can only help them.
