Extended Warranty??? by regardner
Dec 19, 2006 (3:17 pm)
Reply
Just bought a FIT. I know extended warranties usually are not good deals. But I'm concerned that repairs will be expensive because presumably there will not be used, rebuilt or 3rd party parts for the 07's available over here.

Anyone have opinions on the extended warranty ($1500/100,000 miles)?

I just got my Fit last week, and declined the extended warranty.

We have never had a problem with any of our five previous Hondas that would have been covered by an extended warranty. In fact, the total we paid for repairs on all five Hondas together (excluding routine maintenance and collision damage) is less than the cost of the extended warranty we were offered on the Fit.

I have a Fit ordered that's supposedly slated for early January production, they're telling me I'll get it at the end of February, we'll see though.

Are you waiting on a MT or an auto?

It is my understanding they had to wait with my end of july order for somewhere around thanksgiving because of the timing of the production, so I wonder.

Thanks in advance.

actually the dealer can order whatever colors he wants to. he can also order how many sport and base models he wants. the only thing he cannot do it order the number of vehicles in a particular model. he only gets so many per quarter. but of those cars he is alloted he can order whatever colors and models he chooses to.

and hyes 6 weeks is a good estimate on how long after production it should arrive at the dealership.

What differences are there with the manuals vs the autos? I ordered a manual, and I get a sense that they have a certain period of production devoted solely to manuals but I have no clue.

Please help! and thanks for whatever you can tell me.

Not all dealers insist on add-ons, but my impression is that more do than don't, at least in regards to the Fit. It's rather obnoxiously pervasive.

I'd keep searching around, if you have the patience for it. Just keep repeating that you don't want any add-ons and won't buy from any dealer that insists on them, and you'll probably eventually find one willing to deal with you on those terms.

The only extra I wanted was installed floor mats and that was what I signed up for in the "contract".

I hesitate to call around because many places are saying they ahve buyers for all that are ordered and its a question of someone rejecting one, and even then you have no way of knowing what they ordered added on so you might have to pick up those add ons if someone cancels.

I am waiting on a MT, and now my current radiator is leaking so I am left with the dilemma...do I put a few hundred bucks into a piece of crap while waiting 8-10 weeks for a car, do I call around and pay more for add ons I didnt want, or do I just go on a hunt for a car I dont want made by someone other then honda?

Grrrr....

Don't forget that the Yaris Liftback is only a three door, while the Fit is a Five door. I'm not sure if the two extra doors are worth another thousand dollars to everyone, but that was a pivotal factor in my decision to buy the Fit. I never test drove a Yaris because it lacked five doors, but I also hear that its handling isn't as agile as the Fit. Again, is that worth $1000? To me, it probably wouldn't be. I drive very sensibly, and don't need to push my cars limits. If the Yaris could have offered everything the Fit did (that would mean a five speed automatic instead of a four speed AND five doors instead of three) then I would happily have picked up a Yaris. But as it was, the Fit offered more that I liked, was still within my price range, and on a personal note, I like its interior design much better.

Still, for the value conscious shopper, its good to know that the Yaris can be had for nearly 1k less with similar safety features

Does the yaris have ABS available? IMO that is worth a bit of the extra as well as the satisfaction of buying a car that will last 200-300K miles. Plus it has plenty of other interior goodies, and I dont know if the 1000 price difference given includes basics like AC and CD player. Then there are those two doors, the magic seat, keyless entry, and cruise that i will get with my Fit. (Whenever the hell it gets here!)

I think that the reliability of the Fit will more than outweigh the potentially higher part costs, especially since the Fit's design has been around for years around the world. Does that $1500 warranty cover everything (except maintenance) with zero deductable? Like you said, in general, extended warranties are a bad deal and I'd just stick with your gut feeling.

Got my Fit ordered... by ciara1

MSRP + tax, tags, and title with floor mats thrown in free of charge and no extra fees or add-ons. It's a Vivid Blue Pearl Sport AT, with an out-the-door price (counting everything, including sales tax) of $17,754.51. Expected arrival time is before the end of February but potentially sooner if a dealer trade can be arranged.

I might have found a slightly better deal with enough effort, but there's not a lot of difference between invoice and MSRP on this car, so I'm happy enough. The order was placed with one of only two dealers out of 30+ we contacted who didn't either ask for more than MSRP or inflate the price with unwanted accessories or fee-padding. I'm happy with the dealer individually, but the shopping process itself was quite a headache and I'm very glad to be done with it.

I think you'll find that everyone is paying MSRP (or greater depending on dealer accessories), so if you're just paying MSRP and no accessories (like I did), then I think you did good.

Thanks, Bobw. I agree that it does seem to be the norm -- but the few posts I'd see here and there reporting deals at below MSRP did have me hopeful that I could be one of those lucky people.

Like I said, though, I'm happy with the deal I eventually arranged. And I'll be even happier once the car gets here!
