I would say if you were already going to LA for whatever, then yeah, that makes sense. But, if you planned a trip just to buy a Fit for $400.00 then you really should think twice.

Lets say you're in Oakland and the Fit you want to buy is at Hollywood Honda because they're going to save you $400.00. Assuming you make the Bay area average of $26.00 per hour (just less then $60K). Driving to LA will take about five to six hours which is half a days wages. But then you have to drive back, another half days wages. Thats just in dollars per hour. But, I'm sure you value your free time more then what you earn per hour during the work week and you probably have far better things to do with your time on a Saturday or Sunday.

What I suggest is you start emailing dealers in SoCal to get quotes for the Fit you're interested in buying. Then, bring those quotes in to the nearest dealer and see if they'll match it.

Good luck

I understand you are wondering about the Nav b/c it does look cool. However, many people who post do not think it is a good investment. You get a couple of other features on the car though along with it.

I have a friend with the Civic/NAV and I have a Garmin Nav. I love being able to take my Nav in and out of the house to program new places I have to go. I also love taking it on trips to visit people so when I ask a friend in NJ to drive me to Brooklyn, I turn on the Nav to help them out. I love turning on the Nav if I am out of town and want to know where to eat by requesting restaurants in the are area and I love having Nav when my car is out of commission like when it got totaled so I could have it for the rental. These little Nav systems are pretty darn handy and it is so great to have a portable system.

IF the NAV on the Fit came with satellite, I know it would be a bit more tempting like on the Civic you get Satellite on the Nav but it is just not tempting spending extra money on Nav and then still not having the setup for Sat radio which you may not want now but you might want later....

I think I have pretty much made some points but I will not argue that I think the satellite screen just looks cool and another thing is that I think the the hole that that they need to tap into to install aftermarket satellite radio is in a slightly handier place on the Nav cars....

Also, some people have complained about the traction control or whatever that stability system is that comes with Nav. I have no comment, I know nothing about this except it will be a mandatory feature in the next car model year...

Good luck and I hope everything works out. Check the dealer inventory and see if it is piling up like it is here in Atlanta...I am able to check on cars.com with a zipcode search, see if they do that in LA....

Ordered Fit Sport MT by siarizona

I just put a deposit on a black Fit Sport MT from Meyer Honda in O'Fallon, IL. Since I'm currently overseas, my main goal was to have a car available for pick up during a house hunting trip, and not spend my time driving around the St Louis area. Plus, if I have to take the car to the dealer later on, it's nearby. Therefore, for convenience, I decided to pay MSRP for the car & mats. I'm paying cash, by the way. I plan to pick up a Garmin 850 GPS at Sam's Club for $400; it has voice recognition and is rated very highly.

Here's my total:

2009 Fit Sport MT $16,930.00
All Season Floor Mats 130.00
Document Processing Fee 99.00
Sales Tax 1,115.00
License & Title-New 143.00
Transit Tax 20.00
Total (out the door) $18,437.00

FYI stability control will not be mandatory on all new cars sold in the U.S. until the 2012 model year, i.e by late 2011.

Current offers from my dealers by Sharpiee

I'm in the market for a 09 FIT Sports auto with NAVI. I'm in NYC so there are quite a number of dealership around my area. Good for me I Guess. I've sent quotation requests to 5 closest dealerships early last week. Currently, the lowest I got is just under 18,100. This is not the OTD price, just the car itself. Is it a good price? What else could I do to make it better? I'm planning to meet with one of the dealer tomorrow, should I aim lower? maybe 17,500? Or am I asking too much?

What other fees should I be aware of? I checked online for doc processing fees, I think its 45 bucks max in NY? and tax rate I believe is 8.375.

first time car buyer and would need some advise, thanks

You might contact the 3 best prices and get an OTD price from each. That way you won't get surprised.

I would be interested in hearing anyone's experience with the '09 Fit Sports Navigation system. I am currently leasing a 2006 Accord with Navi and I have found it pretty helpful but not perfect (esp. the speech recognition) it is touch screen.

Considering a Fit as a purchase and interested in any experience or reviews from those with experience. Also, any pricing information would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi Sharpiee,
I think that is a good price. I paid about 800 more than that in November in NYC, which at the time seemed good based on my research and I needed the car right away. Other fees I paid: 12.50 for waste tire fee, 10. NYS inspection fee, 195 NYS registration fee (although I just got a unsolicited refund from the dealer for 65. which I think is related to this...), 45. dealers doc fee (which you can avoid by applying for registration/title yourself.) and 8.375 tax. I had felt pretty prepared for the price negotiations and until that point I felt pretty good about the dealership, but where I almost got screwed was with the hondacare warranty. Because I hadn't researched this before (it was also my first car purchase), I ignorantly believed the fiance person when she said it cost 2400$ for a 5 year,80,000K policy and believed that it was a mandatory cost to qualify for the loan (which is what she implied) and I believed her when she told me that I had to buy it on the spot, that the cost if I waited one day would then rise to $4000 because then the car would be used!!! She outright lied to me about much of this. (Imagine having to look at yourself in the mirror everyday doing this for a living.) I was also vulnerable because at that point I had been in the dealership for 7 hours.

Luckily this forum saved me. I found the name here of the honda dealer in Massachusetts who sells honda care extended warranties on line. Armed with this quote the manager of the dealership agreed to cancel the original hondacare warranty and sell it to me at the price I got on-line.

Another something to be careful of, you are supposed to receive a key code card (which I didn't), an audio code card (which I didn't) and a navigation system code card (which I did). I didn't find that out until I read the manual. I am still bugging the dealership to get these.

Good luck,
2NS

Hey all,

Looking to buy a Fit Sport 5M by end of the month.

Test drove and SO also test drove - it's fun and it will serve my every need with that potential cargo area.

Saw a Fit Sport in showroom that had leather seats - obviously not a standard option, but both dealers I've been too say they can add it aftermarket and have done so for many years (on other cars I presume).

Wife thinks the cloth door panel will not be durable. Prefers leather (plus I think she's getting spoiled driving my Maxima most of the time while I drive the gas saver).

Anyway - wondering if anyone else has done this to their Fit's and how you cloth door panel might be doing.

I'm excited - looking for a Taffeta White, although I would be willing to settle for the Storm Silver.

What other options did you all get - seems they are all dealer added.
