Because the Fit was so "hot" I couldn't negotiate and purchased at msrp, like most of us here. Even so I consider it fairly priced considering the versatility and Honda reliability. I've recently been rethinking things after a relative told me he just purchased an 08 Corolla LE for $17000 out the door with a trade-in of an 86 Camry--$800 more otd than I paid for my barebones MT Fit with no add ons. I was surprised how many more features his "vanilla" Corolla had compared to mine: vehicle stability control with traction control and brake assist; tire pressure monitoring; six CD player w six speakers; cruise control; daytime running lights; optitron display showing outside temp, coolant temp among other; two map lamps; seat height adjustment; remote fuel cap release; two 12 v jacks; tilt steering wheel, etc. From what I can gather the only things I had over him with my Fit were mpg, six airbags (he has two but does have an extra reinforcement bar on the side door) and the magic seats. Granted, not everyone will get such a good deal on a Corolla (he was in the right place at the right time at end of month); but my point is these types of negotiating opportunities exist for other cars but not for the Fit. And I'm not trying to turn this thread into 'Fit vs. Corolla' (it's just an example), and I still love my car. But I'll admit what he got for his money compared with mine made me rethink my purchase. He got at least 50% more car for the same money. It will be interesting to see what price the Fit goes for once American production kicks in and there are plenty of them and supply meets demand. I'm guessing $2000 less?

My wife wanted to look at all the cars so ok, she sat in all the Toyotas and then we went to Mitsubishi and then over to Honda on the way home. I owned a 2005 Jazz 1.3L that model is selling here for P690,000 ($14,972.01 USD) and there is no discount on any cars in the Philippines. I owned the Jazz for almost a year. Except for the fuel economy being lower than i'd like it was a great car but after sitting in the Camry and the Accord. I sat in the back seats of the cars just for fun and to see how much room they have. salesman here get paid by the day no commission so they really don't care and having a customer looking at cars makes them look good to their boss. You really have to ask yourself why is the Fit/Jazz so expensive? Great car with a sweet shifter but you have to baby it to get the good economy but other cars also offer a lot as well. The seats also felt pretty hard in the Jazz I sat in today, but not as bad as the Civics. If your friend got a Corolla for that price it's a good deal but full MSRP nah, I had one and we all pay MSRP here. No incentives on the Fit but a lot of incentives on other cars in the US. That can easily swing me around because money doesn't grow on trees. I think the new updated Fit is going to be much better, it's shame it's coming out in 2009. |

I've just started reading these forums and am getting a bit anxious about the purchase of my Honda Fit. I live out of the country and am having assistance with the purchase through an auto broker. I now drive a 2005 Honda Jazz and figure the car couldn't be too different. Am I in for a surprise? Anyways, what do you people think $16245 excluding doc fees and taxes for a Base Fit AT Lunar Mist in Northern California? I am I paying too much?

I never got the fuel economy that they claimed but I rarely left the city and there was alot of traffic, it's worse now. Personally I'd never buy a car without test driving it first. I also have never used a broker but one car can feel better than another car to me even in the same model and some feel better when they drive etc.... Why not rent a car when you get back to the US? That's what I am going to do. Drive the car, then buy the one you like. Sight unseen would be too scary for me and when you get here if it's more than a month or two the prices might come down a bit. Edmunds lists the Base with a Manual as having an MSRP of $14,650 and a TMV which includes the destination charge of $595 and a TMV price of $15,126 and that's about $120 under MSRP. So it looks to me like you are paying $1,000 over MSRP! Maybe in California that's a good price but for me anything over MSRP is a deal breaker! Maybe California cars cost $1,000 more tho?

The Fit is too hot to get a great price, but your auto-broker (who's supposed to help you beat the rest of us) is offering you a car which is overpriced from msrp! Most people in this forum obtained their Fits for msrp + doc fee (0-$500) + ttl (different for each state). $16245 is about $700 over the msrp.

Replying to: hondaman16 (Jul 02, 2007 9:18 pm) $15,713 Fit Sport Automatic including cargo tray, wheel locks, bumper protection, cargo cover, and carpet floor mats. Each dealer was quoting different prices for these items. Most would give the first three easy ( a value of $500-600 according to them). One dealer wanted $109 for the cargo cover, another $240. I would e-mail the dealers with a statement like "_____ dealer is offering it all to me with these... at this price. Can you match or beat their price.?" So those items ended up lumped into the price. No trade in. No financing/ paid cash (but I didn't tell them that ahead of time.) No one was willing to include the destination charge in the price, so I paid that at $595. Then I paid registration/ license fees of $178.75 A documentation fee of $55 And the rest was sales taxes at my L.A. County resident rate. (Sales tax varies in Calif. depending on your county, not the dealership's) Out the door was $17898 I hope this helps out. |

Replying to: stevecebu (Jul 11, 2007 1:30 am) My Jazz is an LSi 1.4L MT. I get an average of about 6.1L/ 100km. Most of my driving is through back farm roads in NL and DE visiting families houses. But there was a time period when I first purchased the car that I was commuting about once a week 250 km one direction and back at the end of the week. I can push it to about 140Km on the autobahn, and that is what I did on average during my long commute, but it doesn't seem to like to go faster. I am fine with that. There have only been a hand full of times where I needed to pass on a up-grade and the little engine that could, just simply couldn't. That can be a bit embarassing especially with a Mercedes hauling up behind you wanted to pass. One feature of the Jazz that I am impressed by is the tight turning radius. It is such an advantage when driving around the tiny Europeon roads and getting out of tight spots. Anyways, I hope the FIT will live up to my expectations.
