Hi, hudsonthedog,

I'm not sure if you'll get any answers here, but you might find some takers among the enthusiasts in Sports Cars: The Definitive Discussion.

My wife owns and drives a 1980 MGB. I have always had a '69 Camaro and a friend had a Karmen Gia roadster. She wanted a "fun" car. We found this cherry 1980 MGB in 1990 with 30,000 miles on it and grabbed it. It gets a lot of attention when she is out in it. I have driven a lot of cars and can tell you that this is the tightest (steering, shifting, braking) car I have driven. It does not do anything unpredictable. I like more horsepower though.

I think many MG owners would say the same about the horsepower. My Midget, when running properly, had surprisingly good get-up-and-go for a vehicle rated at 55hp.

MGBs are fun, I've just been more drawn to the Midget. I like small cars...I'd get a Caterham if the right one fell into my hands.

If your car weren't so "cherry," I'd tell you to find a Rover/Buick engine for a swap. The MGB GT was offered with the 215cid V8 in the late 1960s and early 1970s, although none were officially imported to the US. Rover later made a modern version of the MGB roadster (MG RV8) and powered it with the Land Rover version of the 3.5L V8.

The six-cylinder MGC (similar to the MG but with a hood bulge) was more powerful (150hp) but nose-heavy.

Nice thing about MGBs is that you can get any part you need for one, delivered UPS next day! Aside from maybe old Mustangs and old VW bugs, there's no car in the world that has such a great aftermarket parts network.

You can even order an entire NEW BODY, complete!!

Does the multitude of MGB parts today apply to the Midget too? I mean, could I also get Midget parts delivered to my door next day? (LOL)

Yep, but maybe not a new body!

Even a new body. Just not for the generation of Midget I own.

I have a 1977 Midget with almost 38,000 miles on it. I wouldn't rate it as excellent, but pretty good condition and wondering if anyone would have a idea of what it is worth?

Probably $3,500--$4,500 if it's clean and runs well and has no conspicuous needs. In other words, a good "20-footer" where you don't notice any defects if you are standing across the street from it.

If there are dents, or ripped upholstery, or rust, or funky top, deduct accordingly to restore those defects.
