You're right, it is a small car so people shouldn't expect it to drive like a large sedan. It's also a HONDA small car, so people should expect the Fit to have a traditional Honda-type ride, which is firm. There are some small cars with softer rides than the Fit, e.g. Accent and Versa, but there are tradeoffs in handling etc. I wonder if new Fit owners who complain about the ride took the car for a loooong test drive over a variety of road surfaces before buying the car?

I'm coming from a 2003 Mazda6 AT, the ride is just as firm, but zippier and nimble (aka fun) actually because of the smaller sized Fit. On smooth roads, it's very nice, on rough roads, the suspension gets clunky, but I still don't mind given the increased interior room of a subcompact hatchback and higher mileage. It's a tradeoff I'm willing to live with. As for seats, you can always get generic seat covers with padding if the support isn't there for you. The fit sits more upright and is probably easier to get in and out, esp for less flexible people.

It's funny you should mention getting in and out of the Fit because I just picked up my Dad the other day for a doctors appointment and he told me it's actually easier entering and exiting the Fit than it is with his Cadallic because the seats sit up higher with handles to grab onto and the doors open so wide.

Side note--We just moved a friend of mine and nobody wanted to use his SUV because boxes kept getting stuck going in and out of the cabin; love those doors!

Uhg, bit much to read through all of that, but you're way blowing the noise issue out of proportion. The car is very quiet on the freeway for an economy car. Wind noise and road noise are very reasonable for an $18K car. The loudest thing is the engine when you're revving it. I don't know what the 08 sounds like on the freeway but my 09 is just fine.

You want super quiet, buy a Lexus, but for a sub $20K car it's all about keeping your expectations realistic.

Bouncy ride? by bygertz

On driving the 2009 fit home I found the ride to be quite bouncy as i went over pavement expansion gaps. to be honest, at 2700 miles it continues to annoy me everyday in the commute to work. A friend borrowed it to check out the Fit and unprompted expressed the same ...BOUNCY!.

I took to the dealer last week and they agreed BOUNCY, but said its within the norm for 2009 fits. I took a ride in another new one, and while not quite as much so, still BOUNCY.

Any ideas? Anyone else bothered by this trait?

Yeah I noticed this too. Probably due to the smaller car's shorter wheelbase. Not necessarily a fault of the Fit, just all small cars. I think of it as more thrilling less chance of falling asleep driving late at night It takes some getting used to, but it's no smooth riding Lexus. Also not a problem if the road is smooth, but here in Minnesota the roads are pretty beat up by the plows so the expansion cracks and bumps make it worse.

Perhaps coincidence we are both in MN. The front end really does BOUNCE over the expansion variations. Too be honest it is much more than I would expect even in a small car. I've previously owned small cars from a 98 Civic hatch all the way back to a 76 Chevette (ugh), but don't never noticed same.

That is pretty much my only complaint(OK, just a bit growly engine on acceleration), its otherwise relatively fun to drive (although I think the Civic hatch was a more so,both with Nokians), economical, roomy etc.

Seems a pity to be a bit disappointed each time the nose is dipping up and down on the freeway commute(it seems to be at its worst 40-60 m/hr), especially given all the good things said, written.
Is MN the only place with expansion gaps????one would think they would have installed a few on the test tracks.

I am in MN also. I agree the ride is bouncy but check your tire pressure. I did and found the dealer had the pressure set at 55 psi! I lowered to 35 psi and the improvement in the ride was tremendous. Not quite as bouncy and way,way less harsh on the cracks and heaves on what pass for roads around here.Even my wife noticed and commented. She normally couldn't tell if something changed unless a wheel actually fell off and then I am not sure she would notice.

P.S. you want to see bad roads, go to Hudson WI!

stevemr1,
I'm not trying to be a smarta$$, but recommend you try flexing your buttocks occasionally... squeeze, hold, release. Gets blood back into your rear muscles. Also do the same for your upper and lower legs while you've got the car on cruise control. These are similar the videos shown on airlines to keep blood clots from forming in your legs. Also recommend, again, not to be a smarta$$, some exercise if you're not currently doing any. Walking, jogging, lunges, squats. All are good for the muscles & blood circulation.
Good luck

Do you guys think aftermarket springs with softer rebound rates could help with the bouncy feeling, too? I'm moving to Illinois, buying an 09 Fit, and may be doing 20+ miles on highways each way to work. I wonder how choppy the freeways will be in the St Louis, MO, area.
Cheers
Lee
