Amazing space inside my Fit Sport!!! by cbusfit

I just picked up an 8 foot christmas tree yesterday and it fit easily into my 08 Fit Sport manual with both the back seats and front passenger seat folded down. My wife drove our Avalon with the kids and I drove separately in the Fit. I thought a tree would fit inside, but I was still a little unsure until I tried. I was amazed at how easily it fit inside. It was not a thin chrismas tree either. We used to have to put the tree on top of our 4Runner. No more!

Do both cars combined still use less gas than a 4Runner, though?

I guess it's nice to know you can fit one in there.

I got a 9 ft. long roll of house wrap in my 09 Fit using the same seat folding plan. This weekend we went to our first dog shows using the new Fit. It held two 24" x 36" dog crates very nicely. One dog exited the end of her crate through a rear passenger door and the other through the side of his crate out the rear hatch. The only adjustment I had to make was elevating the rear crate about 2 " (placed a couple of 2 x 12s and a piece of 3/4" plywood on the floor under the rear crate) to allow the crate's side door to swing open/shut without hitting the rear bottom lip of the hatch opening. I'd told a friend what I was planning to do and she didn't believe the Fit would hold those two large crates until she saw it in person. I still had room on top of the crates to stow two large folding crates and could just see over them through the rear view mirror and rear window.... but just barely. No complaints from the two Labradors, so I think they enjoyed the ride!

Really digging my 09 fit by djsg143

I was really torn between the 09 Fit and the Mazda 3

I decided on a fit because a relative already has one, loves it, and I felt we could go through any ownership problems together...also it would help with maint. since we could both do it....

My take on it

the space takes some getting used to but I really like the seating position. I am 5'10 255 lbs....big guy and its great....I miss the center console but I love the second glove compartment!

now the engine is smooth, but maybe its because its new....also the tranny has a jumping issue when braking at a light....(only in city driving,) I think 1st gear is between 1-7 mph....but other than that there is enough pep on this car compared to other cars I have owned.....can't wait to finish breaking it in so I can find out....

oh and it handles like a dream....after 3 days of driving it (and 300 miles on the odo) I am looking forward to my time with this car....

highway noise by moontom

I am close to committing to the Fit and want some candid input from drivers.

first, has anyone done an aftermarket moonroof on the 09? I know on earlier years Honda said it would void the warranty. dunno yet about this on the 09.

more importantly, this car will do some highway time. I drive a Toyota Matrix and it's noisy. my drive in the Fit (local roads only) made me think it'll be the same -- lots of ambient road noise, etc. I'm going back to test on the highway but any input would be greatly appreciated. is it too noisy for a conversation? do you feel the wind when passing a big truck?

thanks in advance!

It's noisy. I had the '08 and traded it in on the much quieter '09 Cobalt. I traded in my '08 Nissan Versa, which itself was quieter than the Fit, on an '09 Focus which is much quieter than any car I've own short of my wife's current Honda Odyssey.

But the differences aren't great. The Fit was a lot of fun while I had it, combining sporty driving, high mileage (37 mpg lifetime miles from my mostly free flowing freeway commute), and incredible luggage and people space.

I was disappointed to read that the '09 isn't quieter, although that was one of Honda's goals. Oddly enough, 3 test drives I read said it was just as noisy, but one said it is much quieter. I haven't driven the '09 myself.

I drive 80 on the highway many times per week. Now, AZ has some pretty quiet roads anyway compared to say Chicago (or most places), but I don't find it all that bothersome. You can have a conversation just fine. With the SVC on high on the radio, you don't even need to turn it up. There's road noise, but I don't think it's that bad.

'07 fit sport AT. still on OEM Dunlops.

2009 side impact ratings? by jcharles65

I checked out the '09 Fit Sport today, and am on the verge of buying, but noticed that the window info sheet listed only front impact (5 stars for both front and rear) but not side impact. When will this be available?

Side test scores are available on www.safercar.gov. They are 5 stars front and 4 stars rear. Also, the 2009 Fit got "Good" on the IIHS frontal, side, and rear crash tests, which is an excellent showing for such a small car. It is in fact an IIHS "Top Safety Pick" when equipped with the optional stability control.

Thanks for the quick lead! I see that stability control is only available with the Sport with Navi...the salesman claimed that ESC is not so important in a small car like this, but I'd feel better with it. Anybody got strong feelings on this one?
