Wanted to give back to the forum.. because of how valuable the info was for me when trying to get the best price. I purchased 2 new Acura RL's over the years and wanted to see what else was out there before I made another purchase... I looked at BMW, Infiniti, Acura and Lexus, but really never considered BMW because it's not Japanese and the 528i? series that I looked at was horrible. I got the GS 350 MSRP $52,050 + whatever the MSRP is for XM radio For $45,500! A dealer in San Diego offered me the same car for $45,150. The CA doc fee is $500 less then where I live so it would have been a total savings of $850 to hop on a Southwest flight for $99.00 But, I'm so picky that I would not have wanted to drive it 300 miles on the freeway (at 80mph) during the break-in period... I would have spent the weekend touring around the west coast of CA to build miles before I hit the freeway. When I offered $45,150, my local dealership would not go below $47,200 and when I told them my final price was $45,500 they would not take the deal and I left that night at 8:30PM without the car. I then knew that my only way to get the price was a face to face with the General Manager of the dealership who is normally not involved in the sales process at all. After 15 minutes of conversation he asked me if I was ready to buy the car for whatever price I had offered (he didn't even know, nor did he care what the price was???), and it was done. He told the sales department that we reached a deal, and they were completely shocked that I could get that price and wondered what we talked about during those 15 minutes. Your spending a lot of money, get the best deal possible and negotiation is always best done in a professional, civilized manner. Also, don't let the dealership make money off you (steal from you) on the back end. If your credit score is above 720, then you are eligible for Tier 1 + which is 5.6% for 60 months on non promo vehicles. The dealer finance people get commission off the amount they overcharge you. As far as the up sell in the financing office, I would only recommend 2 things.. 1. Take the GAP insurance, since it's only ~$6.00 more a month. If you’re not familiar with this let me explain... Your auto insurance carrier will only pay what the car was worth at the time of crash.... if this happened a few months after your new car purchase, you would be short ~$5000 or so dollars from what they paid you out on and what it cost to buy a new car from the dealership. The GAP policy would ensure that you would get a brand new car in this situation. 2. Extended warranty if you plan on keeping the car. I extended the 48 / 50,000 to 72 / 100,000 for $1750.00 more and got a cheaper rate for not using the 100% refund option. Chances are that the CD player will jam, etc and you will need some kind of warranty related fix within a 7 year period. As a final note, the premium stereo upgrade is unrivaled by any other car maker in this class... It's hard to get the "wow" factor out of me but I said wow, when I listened to the stereo with some audio testing cd's that I brought in from home. Happy negotiating!

MotorWeek had a test of the new Lincoln MKS - 1.7 sec slower 0-60 and 3-4 mpg less (16/23 - thats CUV mileage). I love the keyless entry, just put your hand on the handle to open the door and it unlocks. No key, no fob, no buttons. The Lexus is amazing !!! |

Replying to: vegas350 (Aug 25, 2008 7:23 pm) I am getting similar deal around 43 to 44 K without just Mark Levinson of my favourite color. Unfortunately the local dealer does not have all options (ML PackAge) it in my fav color. Is it a good deal ? . I enjoy music but really not that picky. How good is Mark Levinson audio system/ as i am thinking to compromise.. The price difference with Mark levinson is around 1500 TO 2000. Also does anyone installed/have i pod audio kit-- which shows the ipod menu on the NAV screen. By default it comes with an auxilary output. Is it a good option to add and is costing around 599.. Thank you for the input guys... Great job...
