Purchased one this weekend $400 off of MSRP by Gutsy

I purchased a new '08 Prius - white with bisque leather interior Package 6 this weekend from a dealer in Philadelphia, PA. I only have 140 miles on it and so far I'm up to 47 mpg mixed highway and local driving ... unbelievable!

I'm from NJ and I did my research on the internet through www.cars.com and located 10 dealers in a 50 mile radius and asked each for their best price. Here's what I did: Went to www.cars.com ...under the "New Cars" category, I selected an '08 Prius and typed in my zip code, hit enter, then under "See invioce pricing" I clicked on the "Build my own" button. Then, after selecting all the options I wanted, it provides a listing of the dealers in your area to send your custom listing to for a quote. You can send 3 at a time.

Most dealers wanted MSRP, however 3 were willing to come down in price -($800, -$500 and -$300). Two dealers willing to come down $800 and $500 didn't have any in stock and I would have had to wait 6 to 8 weeks to order one. The 3rd dealer in Philly actually had the car I wanted in stock (last one too!). So I called them and said the two other dealers were willing to give me a better deal and I had their email to prove it. So he talked to the manager and they decided to increase the discount from $300 to $400 if I came down that day ... so I took the deal. If I had waited 2 months for one, I would have paid hundreds just in gas alone.

I originally started looking for used ones with low mileage, however the used ones are holding their value in the low to mid $20's .. with less features and you had to settle for options i wasn't interested in. So the good news is, they are holding their value!

So there are deals out there if you look hard enough! I love my Prius so far!

Hope this helps!

I am in Toyota Sales at Doxon Toyota in Auburn, WA and the same is for us. We simply do not have any Prius's at the moment. The ones that are slowly coming in are pre-sold. Its getting to be somewhat of a frenzy. Customers are coming in and getting mad at US because we don't have any. A few have even stormed out saying they will buy from another dealer. Well, thats not going to happen either. We are holding to MSRP on them as well but would never tack on any additional fees.

Last week I purchased a 2008 Prius with Package#6 for ~$200 below Invoice (not MSRP). The price excluding taxes and doc fee was ~$25,700. Check with the Internet division of Toyota Sunnyvale. They got very good deals and they send the quotes through email upfront.

I see that Texas Toyota dealers have no Prius in stock. Can anyone kindly tell me when Texas is expected to receive some inventory.

I'm interested in buying a 2008 prius in the ft. lauderdale and Miami area. Any suggestions on what dealerships I should avoid or go to.

Nobody has these cars in SFL. Al Hendrickson and Maroone quoted prices of $3k - $4k OVER MSRP! I found that the smaller dealers are only marking them up by a few hundred $'s over MSRP, but in my opinion, that is still unreasonable. Also, you'll have to wait a month or two, unless you pay the 3-4k over msrp at a larger dealership. Craziness.

Well, from the way the market is right now I'm going to wait for the 2009 when hopefully inventory will be better and perhaps demand will level off. Only time will tell...

Got my 2008 Touring Package 6 DELIVERED TO MY HOUSE 5/15/08 by BOB TYLER TOYOTA IN PENSACOLA. THEY R GREAT TO DEAL WITH! Got it for slightly under MSRP considering they threw in the mats, window tint, XM radio for free. Out the door was 30,168. They took my 1995 Suburban and gave 10K for it,payoff was 9400.
This was after I had negotiated a similiar vehcle at Eastern Shore, been told I would need to send a $500 non-refundable deposit for the tint and XM to be added. EST told me the trade in would range from 9300-13000. So I sent my wife to pick it up as I was away on business.
She got the old shake n bake. They told her she could only get 7k on the trade when she drove to pick it up, a 4 hour round trip from home. She insisted on 9400 for trade and the salesman left her in the box for over an hour......
She called me and left in tears, feeling they had tried to take advantage of a female.
She drove immediately to BOB TYLER in PENSACOLA and got 10k for the car the same day and the above deal. Had to wait 2 weeks for it to arrive in port and then THEY DELIVERED IT TO HER AND TOOK HER SUBURBAN BACK WITH THEM, A TWO HOUR ROUND TRIP FOR THEM!!
5 STARS GIVEN FOR BOB TYLER IN PENSACOLA!!
Called EST and got my "nonrefundable" 500 bucks back.
Hope this was worth 2400 bucks to EST....I was aleady paying them MSRP and only agreed to the 9400 payoff they promised in email would be the "lowest" I could expect to get.
Ladies beware.....
