If Ford is not, it should be.

Make no bones about it, I love the Jaguar aluminum platforms. But Jaguar and LR are money pits with no light at the end of the tunnel apparent to me any way.

If Hyundai has some serious cash it wants to pay, I say Ford should jump on it.

There is no reason Ford cannot then concentrate on making Volvo into its Acura. Then it can use money channeling into PAG to attempt to right itself elsewhere.

I agree they should dump Jag if someone is seriously willing to buy it (and I am also a Jag fan). But, as various sources have reported, LR is actually in the black these days. It would be silly to drop an arm that is actually making a profit, especially when Ford, overall, is losing money every day.

I did not realize that about LR. But Ford may have to give up some value in order to get enough cash to right its ship.

Maybe ... but it will take alot more than just cash to fix their problems.

IMHO the only things they got going for them (aside from LR) are the Mazda3 and Mustang.

Any car maker that looks at Jaguar objectively will not pay much money for it...and, if smart, would demand that profitable Land Rover be thrown in as part of the deal.

Maybe Hyundai is willing to pay for the Jaguar name, but otherwise, I don't see Ford raising much cash by selling Jaguar.

It could raise more money by selling Volvo, but the purchase of Volvo has been beneficial for Ford, and ending that association would hurt Ford in the long run.

Given how much Hyundai paid to make its new plant in Alabama, I am not convinced Hyundai execs act objectively.

Hyundai may generate sales momentum. At present, Alabama is more about hope than actual sales.

Of course, the executive who spearheaded Alabama is on leave while he fights a lengthy prison term. Maybe his stand ins are more conservative.

Selling Volvo would be a disaster to Ford. Any possible Ford turn around depends building on the synergy between Volvo, Mazda, Ford Europe and Ford NA.

Pulling Volvo out of the mix would mean starting from square one with autos at least. I don't think Ford has the time to do that.

of the car business entirely. Sell to HyunKia and then buy the South Korean product. The future is all Asian.

Truedat. Brains are working and producing effectively over there. Good ideas. Good cars. Good warranties.

It's been awhile. Hope everyone's been well.

We are now exactly where I feared we would be in 2006, which was the reason for this thread.

Anyone new ideas?

Lately, I've been thinking that the only value in Chrysler is in OEM parts, JEEP, and the names of the divisions and models. Time for some Korean or Chinese company to swoop in and buy it up.

I'd like to think that the Caravan still has value, but maybe I'm just being sentimental (although mine was a Voyager).

It looks like trying to change directions was about impossible for the big three since you posted that just over 3 years ago. Ford seems to be veering off on a new course.
