Favorite ad in my area... by mazda6iguy

There is a dealership group in my area that has screamer radio ads.... the last line is "If I can't finance you, I'll GIVE you a car!"

Wonder if he ever had to give anyone a car?

Well you can finance just about anyone. Just some people wouldn't be able to afford the interest.

Of course he can finance you, at the BHPH lot he owns down the street. In the alternative, the car he "gives" you may be an unroadworthy $500 junker...

They have their purpose by pch101

I use the loss leader ads to get an idea of what might be a low purchase price, although you can't just take them at face value. In that sense, these ads can sometimes be useful to me, even if they don't necessarily affect where I go shopping. (I will begin shopping at the dealership most convenient to me, and go from there.)

I ignore the monthly payment come-ons, though. Even if you intend to borrow the money, buying a car based upon its monthly payment is a good way to end up paying too much for a car with too long of a loan term and at a high interest rate. Figure out the lowest price, then calculate the payment based on that low price, and you will end up saving money.

Funny thing about that unbelievably low-priced car in the ad. It is either sold or such a total piece of junk that the salesman will direct you to the more expensive offerings on his lot. When I was young and naive, I went to this place in New Jersey that was always advertising Cadillacs for ridiculously low prices. I fell for a screamer ad that showed a two year-old DeVille for only $9,999. Oh, the car was there alright, but it looked like it must've been fished out of the Delaware River. Then the guy walked me over to where the cars were more like $20K+...

I can finance anybody on anything, no matter how much it costs, regardless of credit. Of course, a small downpayment might be required.

"Mr. Customer, I have good news and bad news"
"Financing has been approved at 0%, despite your 3 repos and chapter 11 that hasnt been discharged yet."

"Great!...Whats the bad news?"

"They require 100% down"

This has gotta be the best job in the world. I think I'll clarify some other come'ons as long as I'm here.....

Not only are "loss leaders" profitible, they're necessary. And it's not your local dealer's fault, it's yours....

A dealer that doesnt advertse rediculously low prices will not draw enough customers to stay in business in a competitive market. From the dealer's perspective, to win, you gotta play the game. Furthermore, even customers that know better use those stupid ads as negociating tools:

"Mr. Customer, the price of this new Kia Craptima will be $12900 after rebate + tax tag title"

"Why can this dealership offer a new Craptima for $4995? I want one at that price"

"Where is my aspirin?"
