My stepdad went downhill so quickly I couldn't believe it.

He was living in an assisted living facility where he was doing quite nicely for
three or four years. Then he got so bad they basically threw him out! He was never mean or hostile but he deteriorated physically and mentally.

One day, he pulled a fire alarm. That REALLY got their attention! He got scolded by both the staff and by the firemen that responded.

When I asked him what possessed him to do that, he told me..

" It seemed like the thing to do at the time"

We had to put him in a lockdown facility at almost 7000.00 a month. He only lived another two months and died in his sleep at age 90.

This is the same guy that would ride his bicycle three miles to the beach, lock
it up and go body surfing and ride three miles home uphill at age 77.

A nasty crash at age 83 broke several bones and I had to take away the keys to his bicycle. To this day, I believe that "event" was the beginning of the end.

It was no fun to watch.

btw...we also have another pact....we won't give the other one a surprise party.

I've made it clear that if anyone should try to throw me a surprise party, the only people who will be surprised are the guests, when I turn around and walk out. I don't like big surprises in general - just the small ones, like finding that the dishwasher has been unloaded by hands that aren't mine. Anything much bigger won't go over well!

Analyze this

Last night I had another car related dream but this one involved President Barack Obama. The circumstances of how we met are vague. But while we having a conversation at an outdoor Plaza we were rudely interrupted by a driver who drove right through the water fountains and up some stairs almost running of the children playing in the fountain.

Obama reacted swiftly and chased after the driver but the driver got away in his Honda Civic. And here is the twist. Obama was a uniformed policeman patrolling plaza on a hot summer day.

Richard, or anyone; can you analyze this dream? Key words: Obama, Car, Policeman.

"...Chrome wheel lip moldings..."

I kinda like them on THAT car. Gives it a classic look.

I know you hate vinyl roofs too but even those have their place on certain cars.

EDIT: ha ha I just read down a few posts and you were ranting about vinyl tops. Boy, do I know you well.

I better not post a pic of my Grand Marquis. Chrome wheel well moldings, cloth top and whitewall tires.

I bet I'll be banned from Edmunds!!

"...I'll be banned..."

When I look at a car I only care if it looks good to ME. If I like a particular style but everyone else hates it, I find that to be a positive thing. When I go to negotiate that gives me a bargaining tool: "Gee, I like the car but those wheel moldings....I mean.....REALLY?". That's good for a $500 discount right there.

Obama has to do with health insurance and the fact that Heath insurance premiums are going up $2500+ each year.

Car has to do with the car you can't buy next year thanks to the increase in insurance premiums and the fact that employers can no longer afford to provide health insurance for their employees.

Policeman has to do with the fact that the police are after you for robbing a bank to get enough money to buy that new car next year and to pay the increased monthly premiums for your family's health insurance.

See how simple it is to analyze dreams, *bwia?

The people who live in my community went through apoplexy when Mercury quit making Marquis Broughams. All the 80 year olds here don't know what to buy now - my hope is that they will all get so disgusted that they stop driving!

"By comparison my doctor was quick to offer a pill instead of trying to understand the cause of my stress."

I'm afraid that is more the norm than the exception. Naturally, pills are necessary at times for different reasons, but they shouldn't be used to mask the real problem. Often times, you need an objective sounding board just to listen. If you have a friend or family member in whom you have real trust, that is a major help. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with paying a few dollars to have a psychologist hear you out. People are so quick to take care of medical issues but wouldn't think of taking care of an emotional problem. Illness and pain both come in a variety of areas. A good cry or a good talk never hurts. It's not healthy for body or mind to keep things bottled up inside. There are times when a dream or a nightmare can be a signal to seek help. Also, some physical signs can be a signal that emotional help is needed. A panic attack or an anxiety attack can bring on real physical symtoms---not being able to breathe, having chest pains, high blood pressure, etc. Some stress is normal and can even be of benefit, as in motivating you to take action. Long term stress and anxiety needs to be addressed before the results become harmful. Good luck with your problems and try to open up a little more. If anyone has a problem with how you express your feelings, then you probably don't need them around you in the first place.

Oldfarmer: I realize that many people chalk dreams up to "hog wash". The dreams that you are referring to are natural for all of us. The "water dreams" do often send a signal that we need to go to the bathroom. That being said, is it not possible that dreams can mean other things related to our lives? (No answer is required.) Fortunately, in recent years, many people have been helped by the interpretation of their dreams. Many studies and research models have been conducted which indicate the importance of dream interpretation. Many people have been able to rid themselves of childhood memories which, while hidden away in the subconscious, were causing problems in their adult lives. I'm not saying that every dream has a profound message for the dreamer. I'm just saying that we should keep an open mind and think about our dreams in terms of how they may help us both emotionally and physically. We shouldn't always read too much into what our dreams mean, but if we are having problems in life, perhaps it doesn't hurt to think about them. As a former psychology teacher, I always encouraged my students to listen to their minds and bodies. We are all encased in a wonderful, magical instrument. It should always be studied and used as a tool to help us in this life.
