My late father-in-law was a great guy, but his taste in automobiles was abysmal. He had a couple of mid-nineties Park Avenues, and both were fitted with fake convertible tops and gold trim. One time I had to borrow one while my wife's Volvo was in the shop as I needed to pick up some trim pieces that I had ordered from The BMW Store in Cincinnati(this was long before Swope cracked the whip and hired some good parts managers). I parked in the most remote part of the lot so that I wouldn't be seen behind the wheel.

Gee, i would have driven down from Jersey and paid money to see that!

Craig, it's the 49 with the light up hood ornament that has me lusting. I remember those.

Anyone who had a ride in a 1965 Skylark Gran Sport will quickly form a different opinion about how stodgy they think a Buick is!

Buick made some great cars, no doubt about it. While the eighties GM X-Cars had a dismal reputation, my wife's Skylark T-Type was actually a very nice quasi-sports sedan. It had a decent suspension, and the High Output(relatively speaking) V6 gave it adequate grunt for its time. And I wouldn't turn down a 1970 GSX either:

If that 1966 GTO had two 4BBL carbs it didn't come from the factory with them.

They either had a 4 BBL or 3 2's.

Right after I made that post I got to thinking and I thought it had triple 2’s but wasn’t sure so I didn’t try to correct myself. In any case that thing had a mean sound to it. That I'm sure of.

Oh, I almost forgot the beautiful 1949 that had the Indian head hood ornament that lit up at night.

My uncle had one of those it was very unique. I’ll take your word for it that it was a 49’. That was before my car driving days.

The domestics had it made and then they blew it all. Sad....

It is and they sure did.

The one time I was close for any time to one of those 49 Pontiacs for any time was in 1963 when we were up in Maine for a few weeks. A neighbor for that time had one. Needless to say it was pretty used up at that point but the hood ornament still lit up so I was impressed.

Looked pretty much like this. Lit from inside. I guess the bulb is behind his head.

Are you serious? It had candles.

Edit: 'fez' ruined it.

I remember as a kid was my parents' '53 Pontiac straight-eight. It was green, and I spent lots of time in the late '50s polishing it. Who else (if anyone) had the straight-eight? -- smooth, like buttah.

My roommate and I rented a Pontiac Bonneville in the late '60s for a hot double-date. Great cars -- sorry the brand is dead. I'm sure it won't be the last. Now I guess we know how it was "back in the day" when brands were dropping like flies.

Times change. We no longer have a daily newspaper in our burg, everyone where I work has just taken a 10% pay cut, and the beat goes on.

My sister had a 70's era Buick Apollo, The thing started to fall apart as she was driving home from the dealership. I think the thing did 0-60 in 3.4 weeks.

Four people in my 66' Bonneville was nothing. I remember I had to drive when me, my brother and my cousin went out. My car was the only one that would hold 6 people comfortably. My brother had a 66' Tempest and my cousin had a 67' Mustang. There was no way I'd even try to climb in the back seat of that Mustang,
