You are correct. There are many reasons not to buy a car now. I was saddened to read yesterday that the '09 Grand Marquis will be the last one. I had not known this. It was in one of the 68 reviews that I read on the Grand Marquis. I did find it interesting that out of 68 owners, only three were not pleased with the GM. It would be difficult to top that ratio of reviews on any car I would think. I also found it interesting that the owners boasted about the safe handling of the car---since we had discussed the SC here at length. Naturally, all 68 owners noted the comfort of the car and the floating ride. The two negatives were the gas consumption compared to other cars, and the resale value. With the resale values so low, many owners suggested buying a one or two year old GM to get more bang for your buck, but still end up with a luxury car. Several owners stated that they got the luxury of the Town Car without the price tag. That had been my thought as well. Most owners were also pleased with the low cost of maintenance and the easy access to simple parts for repairs. That's a nice plus.

The fact that this is the last of the GM's made a definite impact on my thinking. I don't care for owning a car out of production. That's what happened to me last year when I was considering the Solara convertible. I don't know why I pick the ones that are going out of production. Still, I love the Grand Marquis. It isn't totally out of the picture at this point. As you say, there is much to mull over.

Yes, you do need another "s" in "dissuade".

BTW, I'm not the only one who wants a black car. Mack wrote to me yesterday that they are getting a new Infinity. His wife wanted black but I think that they are going to get a white one in stock. Mack is off the chemo and feeling better. The bad part is that his tumors have begun to grow again. He came down to Duke Hospital to have discussions on some new trial treatments. Some are pretty risky and he has made no decisions. I'm concerned about him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He wanted to be remembered to all of you here.

Hey, Richard! After all of the end of the Solara talk Toyota kept it at least another year for just the convertible. I don't think Mercury is in any danger of extending the GM beyond 09 however.

Say hi to Mack for me. He's indeed in thoughts and prayers.

Definitely hope all the best for Mac and he is often in my thoughts, whenever I go on this site. Miss him a lot, and he is a great inspiration to all that know him.

Let us know how it drives if you get one - Fusion

I definitely will....hope it's better than the Crappler 300 I got 2 years ago. Last year we drove down in my own car, that was the best.

Richard, thanks for the update on Mack. The news could have been better but he is a fighter and I think he will be OK. Sure wish he would post here again.

In watching the local ads in the KC area it appears that the deals are not as good as they were just before the end of the year (and before GM got their bail out money).
By GM I mean General Motors, not Grand Marquis.

New car buying right now is something you have to be very, very careful with. Some are good deals and some are not. The automotive world is certainly going thru a shake-up right now. Go drive a Hyundai Genesis if you want a nice surprise.

When shopping be sure to...

Forget finding a babysitter. Bring your two year old twins with you! m Make sure one of them has the ability to scream at the top of his lungs. Encourage them to play in the cars that are in the showroom. Show them how to SLAM car doors and make sure they are able to find the horn.

It's best if they are hungry and need a diaper change.

Show them how their salesperson's calculator can do double duty as a hammer!

Bring their filthy scummy car seats so you can fasten them into the four different used cars you want to drive. We just love this!

Before leaving (without a car) make sure the chocolate milk one of them brought get's dumped on the salesperson's desk.

These tips are just great. If I was in the market for a car I would definitely print up these suggestions and take them with me. I would get all the car folks in a good mood and then have my way with them. I especially like the one about throwing your own keys up on the roof.

Will do - have been. Say hello for me, too! I miss those stories...Jim Gridell was possibly my favorite. You remember, he was the one who bought that Sienna and then...
