Replying to: madmanmoo (Jan 10, 2009 8:31 am) Given that I buy a car every 4-5 years (one for me, one for my wife), I'll take all this into account in 2012 or thereabouts. |

Replying to: boomchek (Jan 10, 2009 5:41 pm) That was my assumption as well. On my car there is a rectangular hole just below the lock mechanism - the service guy shined a light in, but there is nothing to move or flip. On the 09 there is a rectangular hole as well (clearly part of the manufacturing process), but the 09 has a small latch you can flip to disable the door - aka child lock. This is what I expected to find on my car as it seems to be on every other 4 door. I will speak to the head service writer at my dealer to see what the deal is.

illustrate what's best about this board, as well as providing useful information in an excellent context. We're leery of you and you're sick of us. Ain't life grand?! Well, yes, yes it is. I've definitely taken what's been posted here over the past few years into account when I gird my loins to acquire a new ride. I posted the shortcomings of the particular store I had to deal with last March. Those folks couldn't find any orifice on their bodies with both hands and a magnifying glass. In a perfect world, one or more of you folks would have been running an Acura store in the Phoenix area. This is not a perfect world. |

Replying to: murphydog (Jan 10, 2009 7:03 pm) edit: i found this comment doing a google search: "The back doors are child-lock standard, which means by pulling on the door handle, the doors will not open. The back doors will then only unlock after someone in the front has opened one of their doors (or pushed the unlock button). Now to make sure no one is trapped back there, you can physically pull the knob up on the back doors to unlock them, I guess you just have to hope the kids give-up after trying to open the doors with the handles. Replying to: tidester (Jan 10, 2009 9:13 pm) On the other hand Richard, there's just as many reasons not to purchase a car at this time. A few might be that the 2010s will be out soon and the GM will probably get dropped, and 09s will be even cheaper, if there's any undertakers who haven't grabbed all the black ones. Since you keep your cars a long time you might want to be sure Ford will make it through the recession/depression which could last from 6 months (not likely) to 1 or 2 years, and some say 3! I am not trying to disuade (please check the spelling for me Richard) you from the GM, I kind of like those old boats, but there's a lot to mull over (mull, mull, mull, there's an interesting word).

Replying to: driver100 (Jan 11, 2009 9:01 am) The fine print usually says something like this: Midsize car - Ford Fusion (or similar) That (or similar) means you can get anything in the same "size class". Rental size classes almost always run smaller than reality, too. The Fusion might actually be considered "Full Size" by rental standards. Long story short - rental companies have no idea what will be on their lot tomorrow, much less in February. However, you can ask them to note your request for a Fusion on the reservation. That way, if one comes in that day, they'll try to hold it for you. Let us know how it drives if you get one - joel, what are your thoughts on the Fusion?

Replying to: driver100 (Jan 11, 2009 9:01 am) The fact that this is the last of the GM's made a definite impact on my thinking. I don't care for owning a car out of production. That's what happened to me last year when I was considering the Solara convertible. I don't know why I pick the ones that are going out of production. Still, I love the Grand Marquis. It isn't totally out of the picture at this point. As you say, there is much to mull over. Yes, you do need another "s" in "dissuade". BTW, I'm not the only one who wants a black car. Mack wrote to me yesterday that they are getting a new Infinity. His wife wanted black but I think that they are going to get a white one in stock. Mack is off the chemo and feeling better. The bad part is that his tumors have begun to grow again. He came down to Duke Hospital to have discussions on some new trial treatments. Some are pretty risky and he has made no decisions. I'm concerned about him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He wanted to be remembered to all of you here. Richard |

Replying to: richard64 (Jan 11, 2009 10:13 am) Definitely hope all the best for Mac and he is often in my thoughts, whenever I go on this site. Miss him a lot, and he is a great inspiration to all that know him. |
