>driver, i don't think you understand that some of us grew up without all the eletronic helpers and we are have no fear driving a car without them.

RightO!

My first car had:

1. No power steering
2. Steering was not aligned
3. Wheel Balancing? Never heard of it then.
4. Firewall? Sure. The wall that was scorching hot and called the firewall. Could not keep your feet there after 2 hours of driving. Needed to cool off.

Still enjoyed it thoroughly. Never had an accident. Car had decent speed of up to 65mph.

Sales mistakes 101.
Never tell the dealer the color you want. Negotiate the price and then ask for the color.

...but they cannot perform miracles if we get our car completely out of control.

I agree with everything you said, especially that.

The good news is Richard is now going to another dealer where he can use that advice.

On color I always think that while I tend not to be fixated on one particular color I won't buy a car in a color I don't like no matter how good the deal is. I'm the same way about an option that I either must have or don't want. I don't want anything where I'm going to have to look at it and say "I paid all that money and it....."

You seem to be a pretty level headed guy. Any business that involves selling products/services follow the steps/phases you mentioned i.e. " find prospects, sell, retain, repeat with the inclusion of repeat and referrals."

Revenue in my field are down 30%. Sales is the same, due to the discounts that lead to the loss of revenue.

I fear for you Richard. I hope you understand what I mean.....

I used to see more than a few rental cars at BMW CCA HPDEs, but not so much now; most chapters have cracked down on them. One of my friends used his frequent flier miles and upgraded to a Jag XJ one year. He ran the drivers school and the autocross with it. The driver of the GM may not have been a pro, but he would at least have to have been an instructor, as instructors are the only ones allowed to carry passengers on the track.

Were you there to pick up a new bimmer?

No, but the hotel I stayed at in Munich overlooked the BMW factory. It would have been really nice to bring one home.

The lake skid was at 70 instead of 50 mph. I got the wrong number when I heard it the first time. They don't mention what the final direction was after the 70 mph run with SC effective. I'd like to see them do that on a two lane country highway at 70 with all the ice and snow.

Looking again at the TC display, the second run with TC turned on was at a good clip when they ran up onto the ice. In the display of how poor the car is without TC in effect, spinning the wheels heats up the tire. Also keeping the wheel speed low gives a bit of grip until it breaks loose; but the driver didn't even try that. The traction control run was probably made after they cooled the tires by driving on the snow a bit.

I see cars with 4-wheel drive and lots of the extra electronic helpers off the road here when there is ice, freezing rain, sleet, or snow. I saw a recent Lexus SUV off the road on a two lane road where the tire lanes were wet and there was residual sleet of 1/4 to 1/2 inch in between the paths where the tires run. I can't figure out how she went off the road and I suppose the car had SC.
