I find it hard to believe that there's a long line of grave diggers and taxi drivers with their noses pressed against the plate glass window all across America in search of the elusive black GM.

LOL! Great line!

Richard....I'm not convinced that any dealer, who's holding out for more $$$$ just because of the color, is one I'd want to deal with.....especially for the reasons the dealer states. Funeral cars are normally a special order item, anyway.

When it comes to incentives, I've never seen an ad stating that the incentives are valid for the model, with the exception of "black cars", either.

I don't know that the "limo" business is really that hot right now, either.

Besides, both of those markets usually go for Lincolns and Cadillacs, not Merc Gr Marquis.

Bottom line, the dealer has no black Gr Marquis in stock. They don't want to get one from another dealer. And, by way of dissuading you from buying something they don't have in stock, they're stating that black ones are more expensive. They're trying to move inventory they have, not inventory they don't have.

As you say, Merc isn't the only brand that makes black cars. While not RWD, how about a nice Buick Lucerne? I'd also be curious what your Merc dealer would say if you told them you found a black Buick that you like, also? I wonder if they'd change their tune?

Black is a horrible color! It shows every scratch and swirl mark. It's hot in the summer.

I just don't understand, but that's me.

Wait a minute isell.....my Accord is black/black. It's pretty dirty right now, but so is every other color out there around here.

Truth told, it is a bit more difficult to keep clean. Swirls do show up a little bit more. But, once/year, I've got a guy who buffs it for me (of course mine's only 6-7 months old).

A/C is good in it. Hot sun, I found out that holding the button down on my remote rolls down all the windows and opens the sunroof to exhaust the hot air (doesn't do much for all the hot air I generate while in the car, though) before I get in and start it up.

I do understand what you're saying though. Black cars need a bit more care. Automated car washes aren't kind to them, either. I used to be much more anal about washing/waxing them. Not so much these days. One wash/mo. Two details/year. And, I'm happy.

When they're clean and shiny, there isn't a better looking color. Keeping them that way is another story.

Personally, I lean towards the darker colors, sometimes brighter colors. Silver and white (the colors that show the least amount of dirt) don't do much for me.

I just don't understand, but that's me.

That’s because you’re a seller not a buyer.

FWIW, I don’t want a black car for the same reasons you mentioned but isn’t that why they make chocolate and vanilla?

I also don’t think Black cars are in such high demand. Maybe this dealership thinks Richard has hot pants for this car and is waiting to see if he flinches. For that reason alone I’d be looking elsewhere.

Oh, I agree with you. Nothing looks better than a clean, shiny black car and I've had my share of them.

They just don't age well.

Black is a love it or hate it color. No middle ground when it comes to black.

If a dealer knows he has the only black car in the area and he knows he has a buyer who HAS to have black, he knows he has a captive audience and he is liable (for good reason) to hold out on the price.

He also knows he isn't about to trade it to another dealer because he knows who the shopper is!

child safety locks by murphydog

Guys, I have a new 2008 car with out the child safety locks on the rear doors - I thought all 4 doors had this feature? I see that the 09 version of my car does indeed have this feature.

My 08 has a small hole in the door just like the 09, but the little switch is missing. The other 08's I looked at were the same?

Any sales folks able to offer some clarity on if this is a required item, or more of a courtesy item?
