I spent New Years Eve playing Phase 10 and Rummy with my wife and daughter. I then fell asleep on the couch, woke up at 5 seconds to midnight, kissed my beautiful bride and went back to sleep. Think I had a total of 1 beer all night. When I woke up that morning I was so glad I did not over induldge the night before.

How did they sell 10 cars? Easy, it's what they do.

I had a guy come in today. He wanted to be under $500.00 a month on an 09 A4, with 4 grand neg on a Durango, 0 down, credit score around 580.

I just wave my magic wand and poof, your an owner......

joel....Actually, what you did is not a bad way to "ring in the New Year". This is the first new year's eve I was "solo" (no wife, no girlfriend, no date) in a very long time.

My friends and family wanted to know how I felt about that. Overall, I was OK with it. It was fun cooking, listening to a little Sinatra/Bennet/Buble/Setzer while doing so. Drank a little fine bourbon in the process. Congratulated myself upon finishing with a good cigar. Called it a night (early a.m.). No crazy parties. No getting all dressed up (except for some jeans and a sweatshirt). No fighting with a hotel crowd. Got to sleep in my own bed, which is becoming something I appreciate much more over the last few months.

All-in-all, there's something to be said about staying out of the "fracas" of New Year's Eve.

"...It's a '64 Ford Falcon with a straight 6 and "3 on the tree". He says that's worth big dollars too..."

I've seen several '63-'64 Falcons on craigslist asking anywhere from 4K to 35K.

I can't figure that. They weren't that special looking new and age hasn't improved the looks any

Hum...summer of '70 just before second year of college dad picked up a '64 Falcon from a local farmer for around $650. His daughter had driven it several years to college. 2 speed auto, breather had 170 ci "Special" sticker on it. Never did figure out what was special about it. Drove it several times from Fayetteville, Ar to Texarkana down Hwy 72...pretty hilly. There were a number of sections that you could just put it on the floor and keep it there.. It would top out between 80-85 downhill and drop down to maybe 55 or 60 on some of the worst uphill stretches.

Reasonably ugly and very basic, but durable and pretty reliable. I would probably go $650 for one in decent shape and running pretty good now

Sold that one back to dad when I upgraded to a '73 Monte Carlo, paid $4345 new for that one...those were the days.

Sandman, don't let it bother you... just he way some dealerships do business. They probably had 10 Elantras among their dealership group about a month before the ad came out in the paper. Seems it would be fairly easy to call a newspaper and edit the number from "10" available to "2" or whatever .... but that wouldn't be good for business (getting people to call or come in) now would it?

As for the salesman not calling you back, just find another one who puts the customer first. As we all know turnover is very high in car sales, this guy probably is on his way out and could care less... he's probably looking for a quick score. Knowing there are no Elantras left, he's thinking why bother with someone who won't be buying.

gg, that would be the "Jipst Method" of car buying, which is protected by patent # 568-98A-5N34-21SK057. The "Jipster Method" would be packing a dinner as well as the sack lunch... not yet patented.

oldfarmer, thought you farmers could hold your booze better. Next time have jmonroe drop you off at your front door, instead of sticking you headfirst into a snow bank.

Yeh, like I said, my son-in-law got a new Lexus RX hybrid. He went to 3 dealers and he was amazed none of them tried too hard to win him over. None of them called him, none of them were aggressive in their selling techniques. So, don't feel bad if they aren't chasing you down for a Hyundai.

Also, dealers are probably working with fewer staff these days. A phone call isn't a priority if there is a live customer sitting across from the salesperson. At least I hope so, if I am at the dealership in person I sure want preference over the telephone inquiry. The thing is, how many of those telephone enquiries actually become a sale any way? Probably walk ins are one in 10 and telephone is 1 in 50 or 100...just a guess - but would be interesting to get real estimates from the pros.

You are correct on that count. At least in our store. We have cut the sales force from 25 to 15 and the sales office fields all sales calls. The Managers sift through them and pass good leads off to sales people while they handle the "how much is my 82 Gremlin dart avenger worth" type calls.
