To be fair it takes time to put together and ad and get in published in a newspaper. Dealerships are in the business of selling cars and they could very well have done that. Now I will admit that selling 10 cars in that period of time might be a stretch of the imagination, but it is possible.

It reminds me of a story that happened a year ago last summer. A friend of mine was looking for a stripped down basic Ford Focus with a manual tranny. Well he walked into a Ford dealership mid week just as they were taking delivery on one that they ordered for a big weekend sales event. This car was to be featured in their big ad on Friday and Saturday (can't sell cars on Sundays), but he drove it off the lot on Thursday. Now when they had the big sales event they didn't have the car that they advertised at a low price. Now do you fault the dealer for actually selling that car when they did?

No Call Back by sandman46

But do you really think they had "10" '08 Elantra's that NOBODY in my area has had for weeks? And my callback never came...I had to call him back. I was a potential sale and I really wanted the particular car they advertised. I went on his word he's call back...he didn't...and actions speak louder than words to me. Salesmen should treat every call as if it'll result in a sale...that's why the word "sales" is in their title. This guy didn't finish his job with me. And unfortunately, so many stores employ guys like this.

The funny part is, I'm about ready to buy another vehicle. Bought one last month and still one more to go.

Sorry but a quick internet search found a few '08's new in that area so I don't think nobody has had them. I found one dealership by me with 16 left in inventory (or at least the last time they updated this one website). But all I am doing is trying to keep an open mind.

Thats a bad salesman, but if they were gone (or never existed) then he maybe just wanted to spend time trying to sell what they had. Again not saying thats the way to do things but that could explain why he didn't call back. Tell me have you never gotten busy all of a sudden and forgot to call someone back in a timely matter?

Also I would not taint an entire dealership based on one story about one salesman.

making it feel like it is on rails.

Trust me! You do NOT want your car to ride like it's on "rails." I've always thought this expression was an oxymoron. (see my user id)

just kidding, I know what you meant.

Happy new year to all.

Same thing happened to my when I bought my 06 Tundra, nothing unique about that. I called a few dealerships to ask if they had what I wanted in stock, spoke with the sales person and gave the details of what I was interested in, sales person said they'd call back after searching their inventory, and a couple never called back at all. I was amazed. But I didn't sweat it, crossed them off my list, and moved on. There are bad sales persons at every dealership I guess.

Who can I call to pursue this obvious fraud to complain about.

Send your letter to your State's Attorney General Office. If they get enough of them they will look into.

"...There are bad sales persons at every dealership I guess..."

Ain't that the truth. On the same day at two dealerships right next to each other I saw the extremes. I was looking for a particular vehicle at a particular price point. At the first dealer the young kid took me out to the end of the lot and pointed me towards a vehicle which was nowhere close to what I had asked for and was TWICE my price point. He then without a word walked away and never came back.

At the second dealer I had multiple sales people almost knocking each other over shouting offers and trying to steal the sale away from each other.

I didn't buy from either.

Sandman,

Is it possible that since they ran the ad in the paper they have sold all 10 that they advertised? Being that the last week of December is the busiest of the year, is that possible?

Is it possible that the kid you talked to was busy with customers in the store and didn't care about some guy inquiring about the ad on the phone?

Is it possible that you were on the offense as soon as you got on the phone and he didn't like your attitude?

Who can I call to pursue this obvious fraud to complain about.

I would start with your therapist. Pursuing this with anyone else is just going to raise your blood pressure more and get you absolutely nowhere.

You have suffered no damages. No one was rude to you. No one stole from you. With all that being said, you're obviously in no danger of buying a vehicle.

Get a warm cup of cocoa. Snuggle up to your cat and have a happy new year. Anything else you do will be as effective as peeing into the wind.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! by graphicguy

Hope 2009 brings a better year than 2008!

I didn't even go out. I cooked for all of my friends and relatives to come over for all the "Bowl Games". Had to start New Year's Eve. I did have a "sip" (or two) of Woodford as the clock struck midnight, though. I also enjoyed a fine "Macanudo portofino" while I was sipping, too.

jmonroe......no more vices? You still come here. Isn't that a vice?

jipster....ah yes, I forgot the "jipster method" of car buying....

-find a car
-find a salesman
-pack a lunch
-settle in comfortably at the negotiation table
-state to the salesman....."I can do this all day long, if you want. I've got my lunch here to prove it."
