LOL Word on the street is that we are going to slowly start tightening up on rebate programs, not all at one time but try to slowly start weening people off of them like a baby off a bottle. I don't have an official source on that, its just the talk.

I guess the good news is that my "heart" is not set on any particular vehicle this time around. I just need an 8 passenger mid-size SUV at a decent price. |

I guess in its current iteration, it was only made for two years (03-'04). To me, there's probably a good reason for that. But, I guess it had a Mustang "tuned" V8. Merc put some higher rate springs and shocks in it. Tightened up the steering and tried to sell it as a "middle aged" hot rod. The interior wasn't much different than the one in my Father's '96. Except, it had bucket seats, floor mounted shifter, and a few more gauges in the console. Asdie from that, not much difference. He told me the specs. I guess the motor had 300 HP (compared to the regular 230HP) and a bit more torque than standard. Still, how collectible can this thing be? It's a Mercury. Apparently, one that didn't sell well. And, one that has a ton of miles on it. I don't think I'll live long enough for it to be considered collectable. That said, it's his money. That's not something I'd do. If he wants to spend $12K on what essentially is a slightly "souped up" Grand Marquis, who am I to argue? Then again, he's got another "collectable", too. It's a '64 Ford Falcon with a straight 6 and "3 on the tree". He says that's worth big dollars too |

I finally pulled the trigger and helped the economy. I got the Mazdaspeed 3 (2009 Black Sport model). I feel I got a good price and was treated very well, so I am very happy to finally have this car. I know rb has not had good luck with his, but I am hoping for better fortune. Here was the deal - 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 Sport with wheel locks. MSRP $23460 paid $22K plus $299 doc fee, dmv fees of $170 and tax (6% in CT). They also have a service special which I will go back and purchase for $299 (includes 8 oil changes, 8 car washes, 4 free rental cars for major services every 15K miles, tire rotations, free body shop estimates) I kept my old Corolla - it's worth about $800 trade, so I'll drive it when the weather is bad. I can't wait to give the dealer all excellent marks on the survey - they are close by, and I would definitely go back! |

Replying to: roadburner (Dec 31, 2008 12:43 pm) they were pretty pricey, about 35k new. a dealer near here has one for sale for 12K. 36,000 miles on it. last fall i saw a private party ad for one with 5k on it for sale for 22,500. the ad was only out for 1 week. |

Replying to: graphicguy (Dec 31, 2008 7:56 am) I've seen several '63-'64 Falcons on craigslist asking anywhere from 4K to 35K. I can't figure that. They weren't that special looking new and age hasn't improved the looks any.
