That truck sat on a corner in downtown Seattle for many years. I didn't know they had restored it.

Might be hard to beat the family plan that ends January 5th. Escpecially on a Flex because I don't think we will come with any big rebates on them till at least the second maybe third quarter. But I have been suprised before.

I have learned one thing, when ever I think the programs can get no better they prove me wrong. LOL

Word on the street is that we are going to slowly start tightening up on rebate programs, not all at one time but try to slowly start weening people off of them like a baby off a bottle. I don't have an official source on that, its just the talk.

Yes, I have thought about that. Honda has a great lease rate as well ending 1/5. So part of me feels damned either way by letting this 1/5 promotion period go away.

I am still undecided over which car I want (enclave, flex, pilot) and I don't want to scramble over the next 3-4 days to test drive all three and work a deal and eat 2 lease payments.

I guess the good news is that my "heart" is not set on any particular vehicle this time around. I just need an 8 passenger mid-size SUV at a decent price.

j...regarding the Mrec GM Marauder. Was talking to my neighbor last night again. He's very proud of his "new" acquisition. Weather was fairly decent around here yesterday. And, he was outside giving it a good detail.

He says these Marauders are "collectors cars". I vaguely remember them when they came out. I guess in its current iteration, it was only made for two years (03-'04). To me, there's probably a good reason for that.

But, I guess it had a Mustang "tuned" V8. Merc put some higher rate springs and shocks in it. Tightened up the steering and tried to sell it as a "middle aged" hot rod.

The interior wasn't much different than the one in my Father's '96. Except, it had bucket seats, floor mounted shifter, and a few more gauges in the console. Asdie from that, not much difference.

He told me the specs. I guess the motor had 300 HP (compared to the regular 230HP) and a bit more torque than standard.

Still, how collectible can this thing be?

It's a Mercury. Apparently, one that didn't sell well. And, one that has a ton of miles on it.

I don't think I'll live long enough for it to be considered collectable.

That said, it's his money. That's not something I'd do. If he wants to spend $12K on what essentially is a slightly "souped up" Grand Marquis, who am I to argue?

Then again, he's got another "collectable", too. It's a '64 Ford Falcon with a straight 6 and "3 on the tree". He says that's worth big dollars too

It didn't sell well because, among other things, it just wasn't all that fast. The Impala SS would blow its doors off.

I finally pulled the trigger and helped the economy. I got the Mazdaspeed 3 (2009 Black Sport model). I feel I got a good price and was treated very well, so I am very happy to finally have this car. I know rb has not had good luck with his, but I am hoping for better fortune.

Here was the deal - 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 Sport with wheel locks. MSRP $23460 paid $22K plus $299 doc fee, dmv fees of $170 and tax (6% in CT). They also have a service special which I will go back and purchase for $299 (includes 8 oil changes, 8 car washes, 4 free rental cars for major services every 15K miles, tire rotations, free body shop estimates)

I kept my old Corolla - it's worth about $800 trade, so I'll drive it when the weather is bad.

I can't wait to give the dealer all excellent marks on the survey - they are close by, and I would definitely go back!

it's definitely a niche car. about 11,000 (per wiki) were sold over 2 years.
they were pretty pricey, about 35k new.
a dealer near here has one for sale for 12K. 36,000 miles on it.
last fall i saw a private party ad for one with 5k on it for sale for 22,500.
the ad was only out for 1 week.

Good deal; I paid sticker for my Grand Touring back in July 2007. That said, they flatbedded the car I wanted from Cleveland to Cincinnati for free AND I get free 5000 mile oil changes for as long as I own the car. Have fun!
