The new Grand Marquis for $30,500 can now be had for $23,500. Is it insulting to ask how much more the dealer will discount the car?

Hi Richard, welcome back and hope you had a great holiday too. In answer to your question, if you have a trade see the 50 posts before yours! LOL (something about subtracting B from A to get to C).

Seriously though, in my simple lay person opinion, if you like the car and want it I would say I'll sign the papers right here and now for $22,500 or whatever you want to pay. Test the waters, but I don't think that is insulting. To see if there is any bargaining room there I guess we can see if Joel is around. Good luck, are you actually back to possibly buying?

In my opinion, any one who needs a self-parking car shouldn't be allowed on the road. LOL

Kind of the opposite of "getting the feel of the road".

I think I'll tell my wife the day I need a self parking car please call a toe truck and have them take my car away!

I never feel like asking (politely) is insulting. The car buying system is largely based on bargaining, so why not ask? If you get all belligerent if they won't... well, that's insulting.

However, I think Joel said their dealership doesn't discount further on employee pricing + rebates.

Thanks for your opinion. Yes, I'm still considering the purchase of the GM---with a trade in. I enjoyed reading all of those posts on trades. There was good advice in all of them. I've finally reached the age for one more of those big tank rides---the leather couch floating down the road. Actually, the $7k discount from Detroit isn't bad at all. I would probably take that deal if the trade is reasonable. As you suggest, I might try to get another $1k knocked off.

"You guys that say that you like the feel of the road really SLEIGH me."

I see that you still have Santa on your mind.

That was precisely for your attention. I knew if you were hiding in the wood-pile that would bring you out. No one else caught it.

Sorry Isell. I just couldn't resist.

Shows you that he ain't payin attention either.

No, no. I wouldn't get angry if they refused to lower the price. I'll just ask in a nice way. As you say, Joel is probably correct. With a $7k discount from Detroit, I doubt that there would be room for more bargaining---except perhaps a little on the trade.

...please call a toe truck...

I can't believe Richard missed that one.

If I find out he's only picking on me I'm going to insist that the hosts jack up his dues or I might have to do my own "jacking" on him.

I am sure Mr Munroe loves his Buick Pleasure Cruiser (do you drive along with a big cigar?)

Nope, I gave up smoking in January of 79’. I guess you can say I’m now viceless.

On more thing about that “driving experience”; I’m also after that, like not remembering all the bumps in a 600 mile (each way) vacation drive.

You should be flattered. I'm very selective these days when it comes to choosing my needy students. Besides, Driver is relatively new to the board and he has impeccable manners---something that we were never able to teach you.

Extend my condolences to Mrs. JMonroe because "Santa" didn't bring her the new dining room furniture this year. We'll have to work on "Santa" during 2009.
