Replying to: roadburner (Dec 29, 2008 8:22 pm) Sounds like you ruined a perfectly good wife. That said, she really wants a Mini, and she will get her wish if/when Louisville finally gets a Mini dealer... Man, and I thought I made excuses about not buying dining room furniture. Although I might try a spin on that excuse like…”when another furniture store opens in the area where I can do some comparative shopping you might get your wish”. Then again, maybe I shouldn’t bring up the subject; I made it through Christmas the way I’m handling the situation. Car thing: Exclusivity of stores is not good for buyers, be it cars or other products. jmonroe |

In any case your neighbor was taken to the cleaners on that purchase. Doesn’t sound like he hangs out with car guys but maybe he’s just honest. jmonroe |

Replying to: jmonroe (Dec 30, 2008 5:42 am) Here you go JM....for the ultimate in laziness, or just poor driving........... Ford unveils self-parking car ERIN CONROY Tuesday, December 30, 2008 NEW YORK — Sit back, relax and let your car parallel park itself — without a single scratch or ding to your bumper. That's what Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday about its new self-parking technology, which it announced will debut as an option on the 2010 Lincoln MKS sedan and the new seven-passenger Lincoln MKT luxury crossover vehicle. The technology uses ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear of the vehicle, combined with electric power steering to angle and guide it into a snug parking space — all with the push of a button. Ford isn't the first to introduce cars that practically park themselves. Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus luxury line has a video camera-based parking system that can calculate whether the vehicle has enough clearance for a particular spot. But Ford's technology is easier to use and works in downhill parking situations, unlike competing systems, according to Ford's president of the Americas, Mark Fields. “This one-touch function will be much safer to use and less intimidating,” Mr. Fields said. “It's all part of our strategy to introduce smart technology to a vehicle that will make our lives easier.”

Hope all of you had a nice holiday. Here's a question for you. Since Employee Pricing + Customer Cash Back comes from the manufacturer, is it ok to ask the local dealer how much more he'll discount the car? Example: The new Grand Marquis for $30,500 can now be had for $23,500. Is it insulting to ask how much more the dealer will discount the car? Richard |

When I first saw the ads for that feature I figured they must have nothing but contempt for the American consumer. In my opinion, any one who needs a self-parking car shouldn't be allowed on the road.

Replying to: richard64 (Dec 30, 2008 8:21 am) Hi Richard, welcome back and hope you had a great holiday too. In answer to your question, if you have a trade see the 50 posts before yours! LOL (something about subtracting B from A to get to C). Seriously though, in my simple lay person opinion, if you like the car and want it I would say I'll sign the papers right here and now for $22,500 or whatever you want to pay. Test the waters, but I don't think that is insulting. To see if there is any bargaining room there I guess we can see if Joel is around. Good luck, are you actually back to possibly buying?

Replying to: oldfarmer50 (Dec 30, 2008 8:26 am) Kind of the opposite of "getting the feel of the road". I think I'll tell my wife the day I need a self parking car please call a toe truck and have them take my car away! |

Replying to: richard64 (Dec 30, 2008 8:21 am) However, I think Joel said their dealership doesn't discount further on employee pricing + rebates.
