It took a while to talk her into buying her first BMW, but since then that's the only car she wants to drive. That said, she really wants a Mini, and she will get her wish if/when Louisville finally gets a Mini dealer... |

" And you sir as well !The extremely religious are known to speak in tounges. I suffer from the affliction to speak in puns. A horrible malady to be sure, no physician so far has been willing to offer any remedy. I am glad if I have offered some entertainment value in this last year, I gear up for a trying '09 but wish each and every member of this forum, good health, prosperity and a 5x refill of valium for the coming new year. Lord, it has to get better. Bring on '10, I say. |

Replying to: laurasdada (Dec 29, 2008 10:12 am) "As I discovered when trying to trade my beloved '99 Chrysler 300M on my new Acura TL! But, dealer #2 gave me 50% more on trade than dealer #1. Too bad, I really wanted to buy from #1, but it was too much of a difference. Both dealers didn't fight me too much on my offer on the TL (invoice, but I got death stares at just the mention of the word "holdback!"). So, I'll believe a fair deal was struck, but #2 probably got me on trade. My choice to be lazy... " So you think you're a romeo in a picture show ? Moment of confusion, keep on topic dammit, ( note to self). Merry Christmas ( belated) and HNY. |

Replying to: jmonroe (Dec 29, 2008 5:31 pm) Still, for less money (sometimes a lot less) I've found I can be just as happy with something that's more mundane. While I haven't driven a Buick in a very long time, I can kind of see their appeal. Don't know if I'm ready to make that "leap" yet, though. I mentioned a while ago that I sold a Merc GM for my Mother. While he "low balled" me on an offer, one of the people interested in it was the guy who lives 4 houses away from me. He absolutely loves GMs. He's a little older than me...maybe early 50s. But, he's had this obsession with them for a long time. Anyway, he just scored an '03 GM Maruader with 120K miles. I don't know if he's pulling my leg or not. But, he said he paid $12K for it....FOR A 120K MILE MERCURY!

Replying to: roadburner (Dec 29, 2008 8:22 pm) I had only owned B3 cars...my last two were Jeeps 1995 and 2000. When I was looking at 2003s I thought I would try a BMW but I was skeptical. For the price how much better can it be?...and who wants to pay extra for the image? - which I don't need or want. But, after one short test drive I knew I couldn't go back. "Feel of the road" means you feel you are part of the car, the ergonomics are calculated for maximum comfort, no rolling on corners, steering is actually firm not loose - making it feel like it is on rails. Every safety device is used because the buyer expects this....no shortcuts like pay extra for airbags, or ABS, or traction control. It's a different feeling from the American make it look and feel like you are getting something substantial, but get parts from the lowest bidder then work on them to get the price cheaper. I liked my B3 cars and didn't have any major problems. Most fell apart after about 60 to 80,000 miles but then I would trade them in. I like cars and I grew up liking B3 cars and they get you from A to B very well, but they lack the pleasure that a Euro car gives you. I am not saying it suits everyone, I am sure Mr Munroe loves his Buick Pleasure Cruiser (do you drive along with a big cigar?) but don't judge the car until you actually experience it. My friend bought his new Blazer 2 years ago and it has gone back for numerous repairs and adjustments.....when he tried my BMW he said "this must have been made by people who love cars". I think he knows the Blazer was made by corporate decisions to get an SUV on the market as quickly and cheaply as possible....with parts from the lowest bidder. Where's the pride in B3? Now they say they can match the competition or they are closing the gap. Or, the latest Cadillac is almost as good as a BMW. Who wants to settle for almost as good and will it be as good 2 or 3 years from now? I'll go with the tried and proven. We looked at Cateras when my wife needed a car in 1999. Glad she got an MB instead, so I wouldn't even risk buying B3 again, unless there are some major changes, and I mean more than big newspaper ads thanking me for my support.

Replying to: jmonroe (Dec 30, 2008 5:42 am) That's funny! But it helps to explain why most Buick drivers go so slow and forget to turn off their signal light. When I pass a Buick I always look to see who's driving, usually about 80 years old, but if it's a young guy I know it's his fathers car. |

Replying to: graphicguy (Dec 30, 2008 5:52 am) I can understand that. For most of my life I couldn't afford more than my Jeeps. Fortunately, I got downsized for the 3rd time in 5 years and had to start my own business, which worked. But if I could only afford an average car it would probably be a Honda Accord. Solid, reliable, and a nice "feel of the road". Not to mention less depreciation. Toyotas are ok too, kind of like a dependable, low depreciating, Buick. |
