They take a look at the demographics of a certain "zone" and charge the dealer according to the relative wealth of the area. So if you have a rather affluent area next to a poor one you will see a big difference between the two. Imagine if car dealers did that. Thank goodness they only charge you based on how expensive your shoes are.

Sold plenty of them at MSRP, with an "enviromental protection package" also known as "rust and dust", "extended warranties" or as the F$I guys like to say; "Vehicle Service Agreements."

I used to live in Cook County but very close to Du Page County where taxes were about 2% different. I used to cross the county line all the time to get gas at 5 cents or more less. Now I think gas is like 20 cents or more more expensive in cook county than many of the surrounding counties simply because of the tax rates.

Replying to: snakeweasel (Jul 08, 2008 2:03 pm) I think that's it rather than "zone pricing" by the big oil companies. I used to live in Stamford, CT. It had REALLY expensive gas. Next town over is Greenwich, CT. It's A LOT more affluent than Stamford yet had cheaper gas.
