Kinda makes you wonder how many science/physics classes that salesman missed.

Maybe he didn't miss too many. This guy did some measurements that showed only a small difference in temperature between light and dark interiors. And this one suggests that the only significant difference is in how rapidly the interior heats up.

Not to get too technical, but the differences will depend on the reflectivity (actually the "emissivity") of the surfaces in the infrared portion of the spectrum. There may be some correlation of reflectivity between visible and infrared depending on the particular material in question but it's really hard to say without specific spectrographic data. They don't quite get to that in Physics 101 so we can cut the OP some slack on the physics question.

Black interiors by mackabee

I almost bought a 92 Acura Legend today. Color: Black with black leather. Florida car with lots of window tint all around. Worked a deal on a Prius and I thought the deal was done. Customer said trade value was too low so I ask him how much he wanted for it that if it was reasonable I would pay more for it than the store. He said he wanted to get $1200 for it but would take $1000! I thought I misunderstood and asked again and he confirmed. I told him deal!

So he excused himself to talk to his other half in Fl, and I did the same. I called Mrs. Mack and told her about the car and she approved the deal as long as I sold my Camry. We don't need three cars. Sold my Camry!!!! I can't believe she said that.
She asked how many miles on the Acura, and I told her it has 132k. She asked how many miles on my Camry, and I said 171k. "What about insurance?" she asked me. "I'll only put liability on it. Doesn't make sense to put full coverage on a 16 year old car." I told her. "Go ahead then." she told me.

So I'm happier than a pig in slop and then Mr. Customer comes back to the table. "Mack, I'm really sorry for having dragged you down here on your day off. My wife told me we can't swing the payment. We got a son in college and another one with a year left in high school plus a payment on an 06 Odyssey. I'll just keep driving the Acura for another year and pass it down to my son."

I take a deep breath as Sunday was my middle son's 26th birthday and I was hoping to spend a quiet day with him and take him to lunch and do some father and son bonding. I had called him to let him know the Prius was available since he had stopped by on Saturday while I was "selling" it to another customer.(that's another story for another day. Talk about flakes!)

"Are you sure?" I ask. "She's the boss, but I really appreciate a Navy man trying to help a Marine. I'm sorry I took so much of your time."

Couldn't swing the payment? 120k a year plus allowances and couldn't swing the payment? I think this car is jinxed. Not the Prius itself but this particular Prius. The car is the hottest on the planet right now. The only reason this was available was that the customer that was going to buy it ended up buying a Corolla which is the second hottest car on the planet right now due to gas prices going up.
You should have seen the feeding frenzy on Saturday when the rest of the sales people found out we had one available.

I called three of my customers and told them about it.
One said he would come by on monday to take a look.
Two said he bought one that he found in the paper. It was one that was sold by our store and the girl didn't like it so she sold it for $29k including a platinum warranty.
Three I left a message with.
Four actually called me since I misspelled his last name on my data base and couldn't find him.
Anyway, the car became available again on Sunday and as I was leaving a salesperson was working a deal on it. It would'n surprise me if the car is still there on Monday.

It's times like these that make me want to get out of the car biz. I spent two and a half hours with this guy and nothing to show for it. I need a vacation.

Yeah, but did he take into account the resistivity and refraction of the ultra violet gamma rays? Or the inverse relativity of the sun and the moon? How about the proportional directional conductivity of the speed of light? Not to mention the recirculating, reciprocal of the high speed energy promulgation? eh, eh?

"...only a small difference in temperature..."

Did the measurements state the difference in actual degrees? Perhaps we are just psychologically fixed on lighter colors.

I love having brilliant hosts.

The difference was stated as being about 5° and I presume that is Fahrenheit.

That's definitely worth points but you lose points for missing Isellhonda's "seperate" misspelling so you break even.

...but did he take into account...?

Funny you should ask! I wondered the same thing.

I also wonder whether the effect would be reversed in the southern hemisphere.

All this was brought on by the consumer

I hear ya Mack, but it is just the general dynamics of business, we want to pay as little as possible and the opposite is your goal. And the internet has changed things, thank you Edumnds .

The internet turned the travel industry upside down, now I'm holding my breath for the same to happen to the real estate sales business.

Hmmmm....that researcher must be the same one that proved bumble bees can't fly. Good old anecdotal evidence is good enough for me.

I thought it had already made its way into the real estate market.

We toyed with the idea of moving at one time, but as it was just for a change and not out of necessity, we never got too serious about it. We spent a lot of time looking at places on line and making a list of places that interested us. Then (to stay on topic) we would drive our 1993 Explorer to a chosen location and look at homes. Most were way over priced the location was not very good.

I’m extremely glad we never moved as is the Mrs.

I didn't miss it; I just choose my battles.
