As I start walking back towards the showroom my prospect follows me as he has to use the men's room. I go look for the key in a box that has all the keys for the cars without key boxes (we ran out of keyboxes!) and wouldn't you know it, I searched and searched and the last key that I found was the one I was looking for. We headed back to the Highlander and went on a test drive after I showed him all the features. When we got back it was almost closing time so he asked me "You want to talk price or should I come back tomorrow.?" "Let's do it right now." I said. (You got to strike while the iron is hot!) "Are you sure? I don't want to hold you up." he responds. As we start walking into the showroom I ask him what sites he used to do his "homework". He tells me Edmund's I told him; "No problem, that's why I wrote the options down so we can go to Edmund's and spec it out." He smiles. I log on and go to the TMV section and select the vehicle we are looking at. I select the options and color with the exception of floor mats as they are not listed and the vehicle I'm selling did not come with them. "You want floor mats?" I ask. "Yes, definitely got to have those." he replies. I go to www.buyatoyota.com and look for the price of the mats. "I have to add the price of the mats to the TMV." I tell him."I understand. Can you also add a bug guard or hood protector? I do a lot of highway driving and those bugs get all over the hood." he continues. "Let's see if it's available." I reply. I look through the accessories section and looks like a bug protector is not available yet as it is not shown. He tells me the mats are fine and he'll look at getting the hood protector when it comes out. I add the price of the mats to the TMV and flip the sheet over so he can see it. "Can you do that price?" he asks. "You bet." I respond. "We can do the paperwork tonight or tomorrow if it's better for you." I tell him. "It is getting late, I'm sorry for keeping you here this long. What time do you want me to come by tomorrow?" he asks. "Tomorrow is my day off but since it's the end of the month I want to put this puppy over the curb to close out the month. I do have a dentist appointment at 10 in the morning and another appointment at 4pm. How about we make it 6pm?" I ask. "That's good since I will be tied up all day. Let me give you my cell phone in case you need to get in touch with me." he pulls out a business card with his number on it and gives it to me. I go to the sales desk and tell the manager on duty that we have a deal but he will come back the next day to pick up the vehicle and finish the paperwork. TO BE CONTINUED...... Mackabee

Replying to: mackabee (Apr 30, 2008 8:17 pm) Mack... are you kidding me? That Highlander you describe must be darn near 40K. Who ordered that w/o mats? I know as a customer that would just aggravate the heck out of me. What does Yota charge for the set? $200? .

Replying to: zgrrrl (Apr 29, 2008 1:42 pm) Why should there be ANY added value for being "never titled"? 4K miles are still miles no matter who drove them. The paper is meaningless. In the end the car is worth what someone is willing to pay. One other thing to consider. You have a choice of two identical cars. The first was driven by your neighbor, the second was shared by your whole neighborhood. Which would you rather own? That's the difference between a used car and a demo.

Replying to: jmonroe (Apr 29, 2008 4:40 pm) Boy, is she ever playing you. Show the dumb husband the 12K furniture and get him all freaked out so he thinks he's getting off easy when you settle for the ENTIRE rebate check. I bet she had this planned for months...and you fell for it like a total laydown. P.S. Watch out if she trys to get you to buy the mop & glo furniture polish. |

Replying to: dino001 (May 01, 2008 6:55 am) Absolutely! You are paying for them either way. I am sure that I paid for the mats that were in my Avalon, but it would be a whole lot different if I was looking at this 34K vehicle and I had to "tack on" an additional 200 or whatever. I could see me now... "well if you throw the mats in...." and then I become one of the customers the salespeople can't stand!

Replying to: oldfarmer50 (May 01, 2008 7:34 am) Not necessarilly. The "demo" may have been a managers car that was never driven by anyone except him. And, it really doesn't matter anyway. A 4000 mile car that has been used as a true demo and driven by many people really isn't a "lesser" car in any way. Most people don't care and the ones who do care, shouldn't buy one of these cars. |
