http://blogs.edmunds.com/.ee8e54f - - - photos and video from the Detroit Auto Show   Mazda Kabura - hot little sports car from Mazda.   Everybody loves a Mazda and this ride shows why. The Mazda Kabura is an inexpensive, lightweight, rear-drive coupe that's also a hatchback making it oh-so-usable.   The Kabura has flavors from Mazda favorites. Salted with the front double-wishbone suspension and rear multilink layout from the RX-8; peppered with the engine and transmission from the MX-5 makes for a tasty ride!

Um, look at the windshield! It actually becomes the front half of the roof -- almost doubling as a sunroof for the front seat occupants. I would expect a production version of this car to be somewhat more, uh, conventional.   I doubt it will be rolling down the production line and the worker will stand there with a couple of sun visors in their hands going "now where in the heck do I put these???".

Replying to: Sylvia (Jan 11, 2006 9:19 am) Well, ya know Sylvia, with all their faulty air conditioners, squeaky brakes, harsh-shifting trannies and things that go bump in the night, I just can't find anything happy to say about Mazda anymore. At least other peoples' Mazdas ... my 2005 Mazda3s hatch must've been built somewhere else. I mean, 14,500 miles and nary a problem? Boy, I must've gotten a lemon, by Mazda's definition of the term!!!   Meade   P.S. Note I don't post too much on the 3 discussions anymore. What's the point? Porsche.   I seem to have read somewhere that there was a car company that had an extremely successful roadster that they decided to make into a coupe. Does that sound familiar.   I think someone is finally making an affordable sports coupe that will be fun to drive. I can't wait for a Mazdaspeed version.

Replying to: mdaffron (Jan 11, 2006 10:57 am) Pretty much all the Japanese manufacturers but Honda and Toyota (maybe Suzuki) use a lot of non-Japanese parts. My mechanic says Mazda and Nissan's cost cutting led them to Korea, and not to expect too much out of them. Their strengths lie in other aspects of car design. Sorry to hear about yours though.   And this obviously isn't the Kabura thread that I was looking at last night. I'm confused...

What I found intriguing was the idea that Mazda claims they could build an enclosed coupe based on MX5 mechanicals, RX-8 suspension, and 3+1 seating (room for a REAL ADULT behind the passenger seat???), at a curb weight less than the Miata.?   Whoa. If they can pull that off, and keep the base price down below the RX-8 (I mean, it would HAVE to be less than the RX-8), somebody deserves a raise.....   hmmmm, and then stick the Mazdaspeed version of the 2.3l motor in there.....yowza!
