2004 EX V6 Brake Job by brian1

Took my car into NTB and they said I need all 4 rotors and all 4 pads replaced. Car has 43k miles mostly city driving. I asked if they could machine the rotors and they said no. Price quoted was $500. I called a Honda dealer and they said the rotors should not have to be replaced as they are built to last 150-200k miles. He said they would probably machine them and just replace the pads. Price quoted was $445. What am I better off doing? thanks for any advice

Honda is noted for brakes rotors that warp. Don't know why they can't fix it. My 2007 wobbled when braking and they replaced the front rotors under warranty and said they were too warped to machine. And if you follow the mpg thread you know I brake very gently and my brake pad last a long long time, so I am not overheating the brakes.

The problem is if you machine a warped rotor you are removing more metal from the high parts and making a rotor of unequal thickness. This will make it warp again even faster. I would absolutely replace the rotors for only $55 more. Now if they were running an $89 per axle special as happens sometimes I might consider machining depending on how long I was going to keep the car and how hilly the area I live was.

2007 Accord V6 Oil Filter adapter for a larger filter by texasgulfcoast

My 2007 Accord V6 has an Oil Filter about 1/2 the size of a Coke can. Does anyone make an Oil Filter adapter that would let me put a Full size filter on it? I cannot believe how small the filter is that came from the factory. It looks so small that I would change it once a week. Thanks in advance for the help.

That filter hasn't given Honda any problems due to its size. I wouldn't change what isn't broken. I get an oil/filter change every 7,000-8,000 miles (whenever my maintenance minder is below 15%).

Engines these days don't need large filters. The oil needs changing more because it's broken down, or has moisture in it. Not because it's contaminated with particles large enough to be filtered. The filter is sufficient, IMO.

Lordy, I hope there is never any moisture in my new car's oil that means a blown head gasket. Larger filters keep the oil cleaner longer especially with Synthetic oil. This is like running coffee grinds thru a thimble for 7k miles, some crud will get by. I guess the answer to my question is no. If anyone can find an adapter please reply to my post, Thanks in advance for any help.

The moisture comes from heating and cooling metal (engine block). If you change the oil often enough, there will not be any "crud" in it, But hey, if you want a filter as big as a two liter, go for it. I guess you're smarter than Honda engineers.

If you really feel the need for additional oil filtering, you might search for a "bypass oil filter" Here is an example:

The dealer can't say they will machine them until they are inspected. There is a spec (certain thickness) you use. Below it, they can't be machined. And if they re warped at all, replace them.

I just had the rears done on my .05 at 43K (inner pad wore out, defective design). But the rotors had plenty of meat, so they got cut.

Also, IMO, Honda usues lousy brake pads. If you get a shop to do it, they wil lliekly (or can, for a small extra cost) use much higher quality pads.

I use Purolator Pur One oil filters. They are premium filters with synthetic media. They are slightly larger than the Honda filters. Still the Honda filters are big enough. There are no coffee ground sized particles in the engine.

I use synthetic oil and after 8-9,000 miles when I change the oil it is still a dark honey color. If the oil was full of particles it would be much darker.
