I was awaiting your annual thread about C&D's 10 Best. The only entry that I really question is the A3. That segment isn't that big and the A3 hasn't been in a comparo at C&D yet so...it kinda makes you wonder how they came up with that choice.

The Aston Martin V8 comes in a 6-speed. I suspect the future convertible model will sneak a few sales from the SL. And I know the AMG's handle better than I implied, but don't tell them that. I'd still like to see them do better.

There is no arguing your last point.

Good list---a couple of quibbles.

The Mini reputation for quality control and problems is pretty bad. It's a risky buy or so it seems.

The Mitsubishi EVO is I think rated a bit better than the STi by just about every tuner magazine I've read. Having driven both, I tend to agree...it shifts better and isn't as harsh. But it's close.

A good list but some would quarrel with your description of the Acura TL as a Family sedan, it's a bit small for that IMO.

As for the Aston V8 being "Best GT", I agree but I think they chaps at A-M will be chagrined. To them it's a sports car.

A MUCH larger back seat, free gas from Mitsu, better warranty, and better looking.

The Subi has a MUCH better interior, but it's not enough.

The base WRX at under $25k, is still a strong value. needs a bigger back seat, doh.

A stick shift in metro DC traffic? Whoa brother. You got some resolve. Altho an 'afterhours' jaunt thru Rock Creek Pkwy or Cabin John Fwy in a S2000 would be fun.....

Did 115 mph on the Beltway innerloop from Rte 123 to the CJ bridge the other day in a C280 - Autobahn smooth

If the RX-8 is the best sports coupe, why isn't it selling well?

People don't always know what they want.

The Chevy Malibu is seling well, but that doesn't make it the best family sedan...

On a more general note, the TSX? It's down on power and the interior is kind of chintzy. I don't understand their attraction to that one.

The TSX is one of the funnest sedans you can get for under $30k (and that's with one of the best NAV systems there is). The handling is amazing, but I just thought it felt like one of those "more than the sum of its parts" cars.

On the other hand, if you're not buying an Evo or WRX/STi, you're not really serious about the "sport" in "sport sedan."

"The Mini reputation for quality control and problems is pretty bad..."

True, but I don't think C&D factors in reliability in anything they do. Besides, poor quality control and problems are part the great British motoring tradition.

"The Mitsubishi EVO is I think rated a bit better than the STi..."

You're absolutely right. If C&D had a "Best Tuner" category they would (or should) have chosen the Mitsu. It is a better all round choice. Personally, I just like the boxy look of the Subie a little better. Plus, having a boxer engine is kinda cool for reasons I just can't justify.

Now as for the Mazda RX8, not even the top 20 list of any car category.

The body style is innovative and the dash looks nice but that rotary engine is not competitive with the alternatives. Who would want a rotary that has no torque, gets 16 miles per gallon, and you have to add oil every 1000 miles. Not me and please Mazda get rid of the rotary concept and put a nice six cylinder engine with 280 horsepower. What is the pleaure of reving a rotary to 8000 RPM if there is no power?

Yes I know the handling is good but the engine and quality problems that the RX8 has faced are a deal breaker for the top ten. And Mazda has terrible customer loyaly, JD Powers scores them at the bottom of the list at 23 percent. The average score was 49 percent. Toyota scored 62 percent.
