I thought I had misheard the radio story earlier when you posted about the "slew of recalls".

This is a slew:

Toyota recalls 1.3 million vehicles for air bags, wipers (Detroit News)

From the article:
"
t's the fourth time since 2010 that Toyota has paid the maximum allowable fine for delaying recalls. In 2010, Toyota paid $48.8 million in civil penalties for failing to recall millions of vehicles, in three separate campaigns, in a timely manner. Toyota said it will restructure its organization to consolidate responsibility for quality assurance and review of safety-related issues in the United States. It did not admit any wrongdoing."

Is it working?

#16093 of 16273 FYI for the import bashers.... by ateixeira

Kemet (an American company specializing in capacitor products) supplies the sub-capacitors to TRW Automotive (based in Michigan).

Funny how The Detroit News left that out. What happened to balanced reporting? Maybe because TRW is based in their home state?

CTS, Dana, Kemet/TRW...I see a pattern here.

All that measures is "buzz" from the past two weeks. It doesn't discern good or bad buzz - just buzz.

3 years ago BP probably had lots of "buzz".

No such thing as bad publicity? I dunno.

Look at sales, sure hasn't hurt 'em.

But they only produce the parts to toyota's specs, if they didn't meet Toyotas quality standars they they wouldn't use them, you can try to spin it all you want but ultimate responsibility still falls on Toyota just like it does with any other manufacturer ( and always seems to be the case with others, it seems that it is only when it is Toyota that the suppliers are blamed)

From the linked article: "fourth time since 2010 that Toyota has paid the maximum allowable fine for delaying recalls."

There is indeed a pattern of delay.

The sourcing of the parts is also toyota's responsibility especially now that they're #1 again in sales. HP gets the responsibiity for the computer I have sitting that slowly flaked out--I finally determined it is the motherboard with a specific capacitor size on it that deteriorated and those need to be replaced.
