At various times while driving in on the highway my jeep will start to buck , run rough and backfire. I pull over to the side of the road and let it idle or turn the engine off for a ew minutes then start it up and it runs fine for a while. The only time this happens is when I am on the highway, in 5th gear and not shifting. If I am driving, shifting and changing speeds it does not happen. Any ideas as to why this happens. Thanks

When the light comes on the PCM generates a code so that you can see what caused the light to come on. You do have codes, or at least one.

It could be as simple as a blocked air filter, or as complex as several bad sensors in combination with fuel system issues. Take it to a competent professional shop. |
