in Preble and Darke counties, in Ohio, and a few others, if they said' we are closing for 45 days, hrinig e-amount of people now, and training immeditately. Open DOor Hiring Policy -12 per hour" they would have 10,000 people apply!
Not being nasty, but if Delphi was serious about 10-12 per hour, you would see Wal-mart, K-Mart, Lowe's, and mayeb Whirlpool/Kitchenaide, GTI, other factories and shopping centers workers in a 12 mile line going to Dayton Delphi for a job, if open to allwho wanted to apply, and they could get those workers, easily.
Sounds like they won't be playing hard ball.

Hyundai buying radios from Delphi is a good thing.

Part of that effect would be the halo effect that working for GM carries lifetime super benefits like it did in the past. If they were told that job might be gone in a year to Mexico or China and there would be no 95% pay for being laid off, that might slow down the exodus. But you're right there would be a whooshing sound here as people applied for the jobs.

I live in the area.

hey, I applied for a Lowe's job, last year around this time, online, for the new store in Darke county(opened in April 05).
Long story short, never even got an interview. I heard from one lady who got a job there that out of 132 people hired, 878 were turned down, or never really interviewed.
Over 1000 people applying for those jobs

It's a trip. There's little work up there, and people scratch and claw for a 7-8 dollar an hour job!

Even Wal-Mart has a steady stream of applicants.

So, it's one of the "Marts"(K or Wal) or Lowe's, maybe Krogers(they never hire any more),or a fast food restaurant.
Only 2-3 small factories up there, and they are the 90 days temp-to-(never) hire.

Walmart, Starbucks, etc. pay better (especially in benefits) than if you work at a Mom & Pop store.

Bad for small business owners, better for small business employees.

ISN'T GENTEX now owned by Magna Intl.? They recently
bought 80% of New Process gear from DC and will take
the other 20% when the latest UAW contract ends.

Their new proposal for their employees....Take a 50%
pay cut and go non union, Try and transfer to a DC
plant or Say BYE BYE and go find other employment.............

Did they do the same at Gentex?

GENTEX, is privately owned by Fred Bauer. He is filthy rich, and his main product is automotive mirrors. My mother works for them. They are non-union. Top pay is like $13 and change per hour + a ok bonus. The insurance and retirement suck. However he has true believers in his team concept, and the people work very hard for bread crumbs. They get fine quality products out the door. If Michigans economy wasn't in such bad shape he'd have to offer a little more compensation. It's just a matter of time before Michigan collapses. The housing market bubble has a needle. Alot of good folks are going to get hit hard in Michigan where economic growth of good jobs is zilch.

They have held corporate quarter meetings to it's employees. They were polking fun at Delphi and employees and blaming the UAW last meeting. "See what the UAW will get you" "They will get you unemployement" My mother bit her lip. I personally would of been arrested.

Febuary 14th 06' is the deadline. It will be interesting to see what Delphi does to the UAW workers and to see if a Strike happens. Delphi is promising to void the UAW contract and the UAW is promising a strike because of Delphi's Millers current wage, benefits offers.
