We've had this vehicle for about 3 months now and it has about 1500 miles on it. In the last couple of weeks something strange has started occurring with the car alarm. If you get out of the car without locking the doors, ie filling up the gas tank or parking in your garage, when you reopen the door the car alarm goes off (very annoying)! This did not happen the first two months we had the car. Anyone else having this issue? Dealer says it's normal!! One other note is that the passenger door will not unlock with the remote, even after pressing the unlock button numerous times.
-------------------------------------------
I drove to the market. Stayed in the car for a few minutes waiting until the store to open, the car door locked on me within thirty seconds or so. Open the door and the alarm went off. Happen a few times only, but not all the time. Did not like this on bit. As far as the alarm going off at the gas pumps. I leave my door open, and do not close it while pumping gas and no alarm going off. Guess you closed the door while pumping gas. I should try this in a large empty parking lot someday.

I just went outside and tryed it,,, mine is a 06 civic ex btw,,, i unlocked the doors and went and opened the drivers door and closed it back,,, waited for about 5 mins and went and opened it again and no alarm went off. I do know that if you unlock the doors and don't open them within 30 seconds it will automaticaly lock itself back. But my alarm does not go off like you say yours does. I'd say you have a problem and i'd take it back to the dealer and have them address the issue and tell them it is not normal. My wife drives an 04 accord and she has never had the problem either. And if your passenger door won't unlock with the remote then there is something screwed up with your alarm/keyless entry system,,, i'd deffinatly have it looked into!

I think it is true because of the 11:1 compression ratio. In an early discussion an owner, Strumelia message #172 looked up the exact verbage in his manual and it states 91 octane or better is required see message :strumelia, "Honda Civic Coupe / Civic Si 2006+" #172, 19 Nov 2005 3:28 pm

Do a search on this thread and you can find more discussion on the premium gas requirement.

I plan on using premium in my Si.

Well, I took my 2006 Civic Coupe in for the recall issues today. Apparently about half the cars in my series batch had improperly installed accelerator pedals, which might come off during driving(!!). Happily, mine was not one of the bad ones. The other issue was the ODS sensor on the passenger side, which they did replace. It was faulty and would not disable the airbag if a small child or baby seat was riding in the front seat. Front airbags can kill children.
The whole thing only took an hour, which I was happy about.
These 2 problems only affected certain batches of 2006 Civics identified by number, I was told. My car was in that batch. If you didn't get a recall letter, I wouldn't worry about it.

So I've got a few test drives lined up by dowright82

Hi to everyone, this is my first post! I've been reading this forum for weeks now, very excited about the great new cars coming out for us in the next year. I'm 23 years old, just finished school, and I'm tired of the poor gas mileage and squeaks coming from my 2000 silverado 5 speed truck (cam, intake, exhaust, programmed, eaton posi).

I'm anxiously awaiting my 5 test drives I have scheduled for this weekend, and just wanted some feedback as to what I should pay special attention to, or what you guys thought about my choices.

1st: I'm going to drive the 06 si tomorrow morning. Very excited, but from what I was told on the phone, its some copper color that I am not familiar with.

2nd: (little high) 06 V6 6speed Accord - if its as great as I think it might be, I might be able to justify the higher payments on it. I have never driven any accord, but I have heard nothing but great things about them.

3rd: The following morning I am going to drive the 06 vw GTI (NOT THE 05, the NEW one.) Its a DSG paddle shift 6 speed. I can't wait to see how the new transmission performs.

4th: (Lower budget) The Scion tC (figure it will leave me room for a Supercharger, some nice wheels, and a new Television haha.

5th: 05 Subaru wrx (NON STI, drool . . .) wish i could afford the STI, but don't think insurance would fly too well.

Having just landed my first real job and thank god I'm not married and DON'T have any kids (knock on wood) haha just I've got some money layin around for a new car that gets better than my trucks 18 mpg.

However, I am hoping to head to Law School in the next 18 months and am on a limited budget due to the fact that I want the car paid off in 18 months.

What would you guys suggest I check out? What do you think about my choices?? I love aftermarket parts - but not crappy ricer looking stuff, more along elegant performance upgrades. IE: NO BIG WINGS!!!

Let me know, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Dowright82,

Welcome to the forum, you have some pretty good choices listed.

(1) I have a Rallye Red 2006 Si on order. It looks great and will be my comupter car. Will put an exhaust and cold air intake on it. I really like the Honda 6-speeds nad this will be my work commuter car!

(2) I have a 2005 Accord Coupe EX with NAV 6-speed and it is a wonderful , fast car! It EPA is rated at 20/30 and I can easily get EPA and above even at 75-80 mph. It is much faster than the Si. I have a K&N Filter and Borla exhaust. The Borla exhaust is pretty quiet. IT IS A SLEEPER on INSURANCE, very low rates. I am going to keep this car!

(3) Wouldn't get a VW poor reliability in electrical and poor customer service. Positives , very nice handling and road feel.

(4) Scion tC is pretty nice car 5-speed with supercharger would be pretty nice. Base model is quite a bit slower than the other cars you are looking at. Even with the supercharger, it might be the slowest.

(5) WRX even with the new 2.2 liter has turbo lag. I hate turbo lag. Reliability of Subaru pretty good. I think you will pay higher insurance rates. This is probably the fastest car you have listed but only on hard acceleration with the turbo spooled up. In reality the V6 Accord is probably faster.

Law school, just what we need another lawyer. Just kidding, sounds like you have a good future ahead. Let me know when you become partner and get a Viper or a 911

YMMV,

MIDCOW: Thanks so much for the information - I agree with everything you said completely!! your comments are 100% how I have felt except for the VW reliabilty. Granted, I have never owned one, and have heard bad things, I don't know for sure how bad the reliability is on them.

I had heard that they have gotten better reviews on reliability, but my friend who drives a Jetta has had some horror stories for me.

I'm really curious as to how much I could get the accord for under MSRP. I'm really excited about the drives in store - and I hope I don't fall in love with the GTI.

My guess is (realistically) that it will come down to the civic si, or an 05 wrx. Unless I could get the accord for somewhere around or under 25k. I don't want any NAV option because I plan on purchasing Garmin's new 7" VOA Touchscreen unit (much nicer than any factory NAV).

I'm torn between Law School and Film school - Money vs. Love. You know the drill - starving artist, or stressed out single wealthy bachelor.

thanks again!

si gas mileage by chuckd2

I'm happy to say that I got 32.1 mpg on my last tankful of gas with my 06 si. I did mostly highway driving, and the highways were slower moving ones for the most part. I went 71 mph with the cruise control on, and on the slower highways I only went 64 mph. I shift around 3500 to each gear. I know these are slow speeds but I wanted to see how good the car would do. It has 2000 miles on it now so maybe the mpg will get even better!
