without a doubt, Lincoln has made a very interesting car with a ton of stuff for the money. I just cross-shopped it with an 06 ES330, and I wanted to love the Zypher because it has a $3k advantage over the ES option for option. The exterior is handsome, and I really liked how it rode and drove; but, the interior ruined it for me. For some reason it feels small (bound to be an optical illusion as I'm sure it's as big as the Lexus), and there are too many buttons that are difficult to read (for those of us old enough to afford a Zypher). IMHO this car works except for the interior. Less is more, sometimes. Bought the ES. Too bad Ford didn't finish this car.

es3xx transmission issues i read about, it makes you wonder why the traditional toyota owner would buy one. it is not a good looking vehicle and if it can't keep the owners happy with the basic toyota 'no problems' function and reliability, i can't see a good future for it. maybe the zephyr can fill some of that.

the zephyr wil get fords new 3.5 soon. Because the foreiners are seriously boosting power, there is a good chance ford will offer the best tuned version, or 270hp. That along with the new 6 speed transmission from the ford/gm joint venture should proove to be a very satisfying and competetive edge for the lincoln. Add in the 3k price advantage (before any additional discounts) and It looks like the Zephyr will more than stand its ground in the comming years. I hope the "easy to read" complaints will be addressed, after all, older people tend to buy (afford) these types of cars so legibility is just common sence. We will see what happens. |

Replying to: dardson1 (Nov 12, 2005 11:19 pm) The Zypher is way under powered and the handling is mediocre. The interior has some nice features including the cool vented seats for $495 but there are also a lot of flaws. Parts of the door and center console feels cheap and the quality isn't up to par. There is a yellow light under each HID light bulbs therefore making the lights look more like regular bulbs, which defeats the purpose of HID's. The guages are nice and the stereo is good. The back seat headroom and leg room are very small. I am 6ft tall and when sit upright my head touches the roof and my head is slightly tilted forward. The leather feels "vinyl/ rubber like" and the outside heated mirrors can only be activated by activating the rear defroster. The biggest disappointment is the power. A car this small equipped with a V6 should not be sluggish. To top it all, the gas mileage is not that great for the HP rating. The ES300 was an excellent car. It was quieter, morepowerful, and most of all more luxurious. The interior is a couple of notches above the Lincoln but it lacks the vented cooled seats option. To me, the Lincoln rides like a Ford and the Lexus rode like a Lexus. If it weren't for financial reasons my friends would have definitely gotten the ES300. To answer someone's questions, "why would someone choose the ES over the Lincoln?" Well, very simple, the Lexus will hold it's value much better than the Lincoln and is a better car overall. If I were to get something like the Zypher I'd probably buy an Acura TSX (eventhough it's smaller but very comparable in many ways) or the Mercury Milano. |
